Recent advances for SEI of hard carbon anode in sodium-ion batteries: A mini review

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2022
The commercialization of sodium-ion batteries has been hampered by the anode’s performance. Carbon-based anodes have always had great application prospects, but traditional graphite anodes have great application limitations due to the inability of ...

First principles investigation on anomalous lattice shrinkage of W alloyed rock salt GeTe [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, Volume 137, February 2020, 109220, 2020
According to Vegard's law, larger radius atoms substitute for smaller atoms in a solid solution would enlarge the lattice parameters. However, by first-principles calculations, we have observed unusual lattice shrinkage when W replaces Ge in rock salt GeTe. We attribute this anomalous contract to the larger electronegativity difference between W and Te

Rigorous Analysis of Non-Ideal Solubility of Sodium and Copper Chlorides in Water Vapor Using Pitzer-Pabalan Model [PDF]

open access: yesFluid Phase Equilibria, 522, 112731 (2020), 2020
Gaseous mixtures of water vapor and neutral molecules of salt (e.g., NaCl, CuCl etc.) can be highly non-ideal due to the strong attractive interaction between salt and water molecules. In particular, this can result in high solubility of salts in water vapor and a strong dependence of solubility on vapor pressure.

Tailoring defects and nanocrystal transformation for optimal heating power in bimagnetic $Co_yFe_{1-y}O@Co_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ particles [PDF]

open access: yesNanoscale 14 (2022) 382-401, 2023
The effects of cobalt incorporation in spherical heterostructured iron oxide nanocrystals (NCs) of sub-critical size have been explored by colloidal chemistry methods. Synchrotron X-ray total scattering methods suggest that cobalt (Co) substitution in rock salt iron oxide NCs tends to remedy its vacant iron sites, offering a higher degree of resistance

The hydration of Li+ and Mg2+ in subnano carbon nanotubes using a multiscale theoretical approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2023
The separation of brines with high Mg/Li mass ratios is a huge challenge. To provide a theoretical basis for the design of separation materials, the hydration of Li+ and Mg2+ in confinement using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as the 1-D nanopore model was ...

Molten fluoride fuel salt chemistry [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 1995
The chemistry of molten fluorides is traced from their development as fuels in the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment with important factors in their selection being discussed. Key chemical characteristics such as solubility, redox behavior, and chemical activity are explained as they relate to the behavior of molten fluoride fuel systems.

Stabilization of charged and neutral colloids in salty mixtures [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Chem. Phys. 139, 244905 (2013), 2013
We present a mechanism for the stabilization of colloids in liquid mixtures without use of surfactants or polymers. When a suitable salt is added to a solvent mixture, the coupling of the colloid's surface chemistry and the preferential solvation of ions leads to a repulsive force between colloids that can overcome van der Waals attraction.

The corrosion effects of neutron activation of 2LiF-BeF2 (FLiBe)

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2023
The redox effect of activation reactions in molten salts has been previously qualitatively defined but never quantified. Here, we quantify the corrosion effects of neutron activation of FLiBe.

Metallacycles, metallacages, and their aggregate/optical behavior

open access: yesAggregate, 2021
Since the first metallacycle was prepared by Verkade in 1983, various metallacycles and metallacages with controllable nanoscale shapes and sizes have been created by modular design and synthesis, showing unique properties that enable applications in ...

Transient kinetic studies of the antiviral Drosophila Dicer-2 reveal roles of ATP in self–nonself discrimination

open access: yeseLife, 2021
Some RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs) discriminate viral and cellular dsRNA by their termini, and Drosophila melanogaster Dicer-2 (dmDcr-2) differentially processes dsRNA with blunt or 2 nucleotide 3’-overhanging termini. We investigated the transient kinetic
