In-Drift Precipitates/Salts Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
As directed by ''Technical Work Plan For: Engineered Barrier System Department Modeling and Testing FY03 Work Activities'' (BSC 2003 [165601]), the In-Drift Precipitates/Salts (IDPS) model is developed and refined to predict the aqueous geochemical effects of evaporation in the proposed repository.

Effects of grain angularity on NaCl precipitation in porous media during evaporation

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 2014
Three dimensional pore‐scale analysis was carried out using X‐ray microtomography to investigate the effects of grain angularity on NaCl precipitation dynamics and patterns during evaporation from saline porous media.

Precipitation of Polyelectrolytes in the Presence of Multivalent Salts [PDF]

open access: yesJournal de Physique II, 1995
We present a theory of the complexation of polyanions by divalent cations. The formation of both mono-and dicomplexes is possible. Monocomplexation locally inverts the charge of the polyelectrolyte and transforms it into a polyampholyte. The formation of a dicomplex creates a bridge between charged monomers.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

The Coupled Effect of Fines Mobilization and Salt Precipitation on CO2 Injectivity

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
In terms of storage capacity and containment efficiency, deep saline aquifers are among the best candidates for CO2 storage. However, salt precipitation in the wellbore vicinity and fines mobilization ensued from in situ mineral dissolution could impair ...

Mathematical Characterization of Inorganic Salt Precipitation From the Reaction of CO2 With Formation Brine and Its Application

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2020
In the process of CO2 enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR), CO2 interacts with formation brine containing high concentrations of scale-forming ions to produce inorganic salt precipitation, which blocks the rock pore throats, changes the characteristics of the

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.
