Failure characteristics analysis of the inclined interlayer during water‐soluble cavity construction of underground salt caverns for large‐scale energy storage

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
In the process of water‐soluble cavern construction of salt cavern energy storage, since the interlayer does not dissolve in water easily, sudden collapse will cause engineering accidents such as bending and damage of the inner tube of the cavern.

Geomorphic signal of active faulting at the northern edge of Lut Block. Insights on the kinematic scenario of Central Iran [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Recent works documented Neogene to Quaternary dextral strike-slip tectonics along the Kuh-e-Sarhangi and Kuh-e-Faghan intraplate strike-slip faults at the northern edge of the Lut Block of Central Iran, previously thought to be dominated by sinistral ...

An assessment of stress and production rate of sucker rod heat pipes in oil well pumping system

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The sucker rod pumping system is the preferred oil extraction technique. The concept about equipping the hollow vacuum space in solid sucker rods with heat pipe has been scrutinized in terms of stress and oil production evaluation. Abstract The implementation of the heat pipe concept in sucker rods for oil pumping systems negates the requirement for an

Numerical modelling of Cretaceous Pyrenean Rifting: The interaction between mantle exhumation and syn‐rift salt tectonics

open access: yesBasin Research, 2019
The preshortening Cretaceous Pyrenean Rift is an outstanding geological laboratory to investigate the effects of a pre‐rift salt layer at the sedimentary base on lithospheric rifting.

Instability mechanism and failure characteristics of underground cavern in block system under the action of seismic waves

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Seismic waves with tensile stress, high amplitude, and low frequency are most likely to trigger block instability and sliding. Blocks with a single sliding surface are more prone to movement than those with multiple constraints, and roof‐positioned blocks are especially vulnerable to slide.

The Middle and Lower Cambrian salt tectonics in the central Tarim Basin, China: A case study based on strike-slip fault characterization

open access: yesEnergy Geoscience
Due to the considerable depth of the salt layers and the lack of calibration by exploratory drilling, the interpretation of the Middle and Lower Cambrian salt formations in the central Tarim Basin poses a challenge.

Triggering mechanism and tsunamogenic potential of the Cape Fear Slide complex, U.S. Atlantic margin

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2007
Analysis of new multibeam bathymetry data and seismic Chirp data acquired over the Cape Fear Slide complex on the U.S. Atlantic margin suggests that at least 5 major submarine slides have likely occurred there within the past 30,000 years, indicating ...

Faulting patterns in the Lower Yarmouk Gorge potentially influence groundwater flow paths [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Recent studies investigating groundwater parameters, e.g., heads, chemical composition, and heat transfer, argued that groundwater flow paths in the Lower Yarmouk Gorge (LYG) area are controlled by geological features such as faults or dikes.

Analytical stress solution framework for lined compressed air energy storage chambers and its application to safe burial depth determination and supporting effectiveness evaluation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
An analytical framework delivers a closed‐form stress solution for lined compressed air energy storage chambers, enabling the determination of the minimum safe burial depth. The solution quantitatively evaluates lining support effectiveness, offering a reliable tool for chamber design and optimization.

On the participation of natural salts in alkaline magmatism. Article 2. Standard objects and geological aspects of the model

open access: yesЛитосфера, 2019
Research subject. The author suggests a new geologic and genetic model for alkaline magmatism. This model considers the saline complexes that are located along the paths of ascending deep magmas as additional sources of alkaline and volatile components ...
