Status Epilepticus Alters the Function of Brain‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterised by recurrent spontaneous seizures. Approximately 30% of patients are unable to achieve adequate seizure control with available medications, highlighting the need to better understand disease mechanisms and develop improved treatments.

Automated Profiling of Social Behaviors to Assess the Genetic Basis of Evolution of Aggressive Behaviors in Astyanax mexicanus

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 345, Issue 5, Page 486-497, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Across the animal kingdom, social behaviors such as aggression are critical for survival and reproductive success. While there is significant variation in social behaviors within and between species, the genetic mechanisms underlying natural variation in social behaviors are poorly understood.

A Convolutional Neural Network and Transfer Learning Approach for Accelerated Quantitative Mass Spectrometry Imaging

open access: yesJournal of Mass Spectrometry, Volume 61, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This research presents a novel approach to accelerate quantitative mass spectrometry imaging (qMSI) measurements using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) with a transfer learning approach. Current methods are time consuming, require numerous specific steps that allow for the introduction of error, and involve meticulous data analysis.

Sleep Apnea and Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation: Diurnal Patterning of Autonomic Dysfunction and Influence of CPAP Therapy

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, Volume 42, Issue 3, June 2026.
Autonomic dysfunction in sleep apnea shows diurnal variation, with stronger associations between SDB severity and HRV during wakefulness than sleep. CPAP therapy induces complex, state‐dependent changes in HRV, suggesting that daytime autonomic alterations may better reflect sustained cardiovascular risk in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
