Genotype‐by‐sex interaction analyses for alcohol use disorder across biobanks

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Alcohol use disorder (AUD) differs by sex in prevalence and clinical features, yet genetic studies on these differences are limited. Using genome‐wide genotype‐by‐sex interaction analyses in over 1 million participants from the Million Veteran Program and UK Biobank, we identified four significant loci with sex‐specific effects on AUD risk.

Interactions between the bone morphogenetic protein and the planar cell polarity pathways lead to distinctive ethanol‐induced facial defects

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Gene–ethanol interactions lie at the heart of FASD. However, the relationship between ethanol‐sensitive genes and the timing and duration of exposure is not well‐understood. Using morphometric and multivariate analyses in zebrafish, vangl2 and gpc4 mutants are ethanol‐sensitive from 10 to 24 h postfertilization, not before or after, leading to facial ...

Variations in alcohol craving and negative mood during a clinical trial of ibudilast for alcohol use disorder

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Neuroimmune compounds are being investigated as novel treatments for alcohol use disorder (AUD). This secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial of ibudilast for AUD (N = 102) evaluated changes in self‐report symptom measures of craving, depression, and anxiety collected monthly over 12 weeks.

Childhood Maltreatment and Cognitive Functioning in Bipolar Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesActa Psychiatrica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Characterising the association between childhood maltreatment (CM) and cognitive functioning in bipolar disorder (BD) is crucial for improving the understanding of how early environmental risk factors impact the presentation of the disorder.
