Using Weight to Control the Uncontrollable [PDF]
Journal ArticleBulimic behavior? Jane M. Blackwell, Ph.D., remembers how people would wrinkle their foreheads when she used the phrase in lectures 15 years ago. "Now it's a household word.

AND/OR Importance Sampling [PDF]
The paper introduces AND/OR importance sampling for probabilistic graphical models. In contrast to importance sampling, AND/OR importance sampling caches samples in the AND/OR space and then extracts a new sample mean from the stored samples. We prove that AND/OR importance sampling may have lower variance than importance sampling; thereby providing a ...

Generalized Graph Signal Sampling by Difference-of-Convex Optimization [PDF]
We propose a desigining method of a flexible sampling operator for graph signals via a difference-of-convex (DC) optimization algorithm. A fundamental challenge in graph signal processing is sampling, especially for graph signals that are not bandlimited.

The S1025 peptide is the major antidote to the YrzI toxin, which we renamed here as SpyT (Small Peptide YrzI Toxin) and SpyA (Small Peptide YrzI Antitoxin) (1). Degradation of the toxin–antitoxin spyTA mRNA, either by a translation‐dependent cleavage by the endoribonuclease Rae1 (2) or by direct attack by 3′‐exoribonucleases (3), also contributes to ...

Consistent Sampling with Replacement [PDF]
We describe a very simple method for `consistent sampling' that allows for sampling with replacement. The method extends previous approaches to consistent sampling, which assign a pseudorandom real number to each element, and sample those with the smallest associated numbers.

α2 → 8 polysialic acid elicits poor immunogenicity. Small‐angle scattering shows a supramolecular structure with parallel‐chain binding, although in different forms at μm and mm calcium. The major histocompatibility complex requires molecular weights around 2000 Da to produce antibodies, and 2000 Da polysialic oligomers will bind in these structures ...

Emotional Intelligence And Decision-Making As Predictors Of Antisocial Behavior [PDF]
Problem Antisocial behaviors in the general population are not well understood and little studied, however, their acceptance is becoming more normalized and accepted by society.

Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Journal ArticleFrom 1993-97, Gilbert contributed to seven articles published in top peer-reviewed journals, which were then cited 1,157 times, or an average of 165.3 times per paper. When Gilbert heard the news, "it kind of blew me away." He acknowledged

Aspects about Statistical Inference [PDF]
There are two major types of data sources that can be used when a phenomenon or a variable is investigated: the population and the sample. Based upon the sample, various facts concerning the entire population can be deduced; this process is called ...
