Sample Dimensions Influence Strength and Crystal Plasticity

Science, 2004
When a crystal deforms plastically, phenomena such as dislocation storage, multiplication, motion, pinning, and nucleation occur over the submicron-to-nanometer scale.

Materialized Sample Views for Database Approximation [PDF]

open access: possible22nd International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE'06), 2006
We consider the problem of creating a sample view of a database table. A sample view is an indexed materialized view that permits efficient sampling from an arbitrary range query over the view. Such "sample views" are very useful in applications that require random samples from a database: approximate query processing, online aggregation, data mining ...

Evaluation of FASP, SP3, and iST Protocols for Proteomic Sample Preparation in the Low Microgram Range.

Journal of Proteome Research, 2017
Efficient and reproducible sample preparation is a prerequisite for any robust and sensitive quantitative bottom-up proteomics workflow. Here, we performed an independent comparison between single-pot solid-phase-enhanced sample preparation (SP3), filter-

Nested Sampling for Materials

2017
This chapter develops nested sampling into a powerful tool for the calculation of pressure-temperature phase diagrams, and demonstrates how it may be applied to single species and binary systems, including the Lennard-Jones system, a binary Lennard-Jones alloy, and an EAM model for Aluminium. A comparison to parallel tempering is also presented.

Hydrophilic materials in sample pretreatment

TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry, 2017
Abstract Sample pretreatment is a fundamental and essential step in almost all analytical procedures, especially for the analysis of biological and environmental samples with complex matrix. In the past decades, with the development of hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) in the separation of polar compounds, hydrophilic materials ...

Radioactivity in samples of cleaning materials

International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, 2019
The cleaning products have widespread use in daily life; they are made from various complex chemical materials and their containment of radioactive material is possible; so to keep background radia...

Review of Best Practice Methods for Determining an Electrode Material's Performance for Ultracapacitors

, 2010
Ultracapacitors are rapidly being adopted for use for a wide range of electrical energy storage applications. While ultracapacitors are able to deliver high rates of charge and discharge, they are limited in the amount of energy stored.

Sampling of Particulate Material

2009
Particulate materials are often produced in very large quantities. In contrast, usually small quantities are used for characterization or applications. There are two reasons that small samples often give poor representation of the average quality of the bulk. One reason is the discrete nature of particles.

Sampling of biological materials for infrared spectroscopy

Analytical Biochemistry, 1964
Abstract Various methods for examining the infrared spectra of proteins have been investigated using yeast alcohol dehydrogenase and ribonuclease as typical proteins. These methods include films cast from aqueous solutions, KBr disks, and agar films.

Sampling Reactive Materials

2017
A reactive material is a material which can undergo further reaction either with itself or another material or compound under environmentally-mediated conditions. Examples of these types of reactions include polymerization, hydrolysis and oxidation. Since these reactions can occur in the workplace under ambient conditions or even on sampling media, the
