A New Estimation Theory for Sample Surveys

Biometrika, 1968
Abstract : A new estimation theory for sample surveys is proposed. The basic feature of the theory is a special parametrization of finite populations based on the assumption that a character attached to the units is measured on a known scale with a finite set of scale points.

Introductory Theory for Sample Surveys

1990
Excerpts from the Preface: The extensive sampling theory paper was written after the USDA granted the author a sabbatical scholarship at Texas A&M University in 1965 to work under Professor H.O. Hartley in multiple frame theory and J.N.K. Rao in sampling theory.

Sample Survey Theory vs. General Statistical Theory: Estimation of the Population Mean

International Statistical Review / Revue Internationale de Statistique, 1972
In recent years, the foundations of survey sampling have been subject to considerable debate. A symposium devoted to this topic was held in Chapel Hill, N.C., in 1968. Godambe [10] summarizes what he feels constituted the central issue at the symposium as follows: Should Sample Survey Theory be dealt with (i) "by extending the statistical theory with a

H.O. Hartley's Contributions to Sample Survey Theory and Methods

The American Statistician, 1983
Abstract The late H.O. Hartley made fundamental contributions to sample survey theory and methods. In this article, an attempt is made to provide a review of his work in sampling with emphasis on ratio estimation, non-response problem, domain estimation, multiple frame surveys, unequal probability sampling, response error measurement, and foundational ...
