Ultraconserved element (UCE) phylogenomics illuminates the evolutionary history and biogeography of Dorymyrmex pyramid ants

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 2, Page 325-348, April 2025.
A newly expanded UCE phylogeny of Dorymyrmex robustly confirms the major lineages and recommends a new scheme of four major species groups. The asymmetrical, amphitropical distribution of Dorymyrmex was likely created by a single dispersal event across the Isthmus of Panama before the traditional closure date of 3 Mya.

Resolving the early‐diverging clades of Loasaceae subfam. Loasoideae – Segregating the new genus Prosa from the Atacama Desert genus Huidobria

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 74, Issue 1, Page 101-116, February 2025.
Abstract Huidobria, an enigmatic genus in the Loasaceae family, has long puzzled botanists due to its unclear phylogenetic position and morphological distinctiveness within Loasaceae. Focusing on its two species, H. chilensis and H. fruticosa, we employed the Angiosperms353 target probe set alongside a comprehensive morphological evaluation to resolve ...

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 60, Issue 2, Page 308-323, February 2025.
Abstract We present the outcome of search campaigns conducted in the Catalina Dense Collection area (DCA) located in the central depression of the Atacama Desert, Chile. The “Catalina Systematic Collection” (CSC) was assembled through systematic on‐foot searches, resulting in a total of 1599 meteorites, before pairing, collected over a surface of 6.80 ...

Endemism Centres of the Five Richest Vascular Epiphyte Families in the Neotropics

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 1, Page 80-91, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Endemic species, characterised by limited geographic ranges, face a high risk of extinction. The neotropical region harbours diverse ecosystems and a substantial number of endemic species, thus identifying areas of high endemism is crucial for protecting unique and threatened species and ecosystems.

Disparate and parallel craniofacial climatic adaptations in native populations of Asia, North America, and South America

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 245, Issue 5, Page 699-724, November 2024.
This study examines the influence of climate on human evolution using a large dataset (>2500 individuals) and combines morphometric analysis, genomic data, and various statistical techniques. It reveals distinct morphological traits in cold‐region populations, like increased nasal height and reduced facial protrusion, but also differences such as those
