Lithium and Water: Why Hydrological Limits Will Define a Just Energy Transition. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chall
Lithium extraction is reframed as a water governance challenge rather than solely a mining issue. Water‐Bounded Lithium Governance places hydrological limits at the center of decision‐making, offering a new pathway to reconcile critical mineral supply with environmental integrity, indigenous rights, and a just energy transition.

Genetic Diversity, Population Structure and Evidence of Genetic Bottleneck in Geoffroea decorticans (Fabaceae): Implications for Conservation. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We documented genetic variation, population structure, and bottleneck signals in Geoffroea decorticans (Fabaceae) populations across the Atacama Desert and emphasize the urgency of genetic monitoring. Conservation plans should prioritize populations based on genetic information including those with low diversity, strong bottleneck signals and high ...

Ribcage Morphology in Native South American Populations From Different Altitudes: Insights From a Global Comparative Framework. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Hum Biol
ABSTRACT Objectives Altitude shapes human morphology as highland populations must cope with cold and hypoxic environments. Although Andean highlanders have been proposed to exhibit larger and deeper ribcages, this idea is mainly based on research using disarticulated skeletal elements or non‐South American controls. The objective of this research is to

Morphological and molecular data on the bat flies, Basilia silvae (Brèthes, 1913) and Trichobius parasiticus Gervais, 1844 parasitizing Chilean bats. [PDF]

open access: yesMed Vet Entomol
We determined morphological and molecularly two species of bat flies: T. parasiticus (Streblidae), and B. silvae (Nycteribiidae). We generated the first sequences for both species in the country for the cytochrome oxidase subunit I. We do recover monophyletic groups for both species, and we discussed the tree topology.

open access: yesTransbound Emerg Dis
The 2022–2023 outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 in Chile caused extensive mortality in wild birds, domestic poultry, and marine mammals, highlighting the rapid transboundary spread of this emerging pathogen in South America. However, the evolutionary and ecological processes shaping viral dissemination within Chile have remained
