Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

The Liquid Jet Endstation for Hard X-ray Scattering and Spectroscopy at the Linac Coherent Light Source

open access: yesMolecules
The ability to study chemical dynamics on ultrafast timescales has greatly advanced with the introduction of X-ray free electron lasers (XFELs) providing short pulses of intense X-rays tailored to probe atomic structure and electronic configuration ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

SBMLSimulator: A Java Tool for Model Simulation and Parameter Estimation in Systems Biology

open access: yesComputation, 2014
The identification of suitable model parameters for biochemical reactions has been recognized as a quite difficult endeavor. Parameter values from literature or experiments can often not directly be combined in complex reaction systems.

Screening Routine Clinical Notes for Epilepsy Surgery Candidates Using Large Language Models

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Epilepsy surgery is severely underutilized despite proven efficacy, with substantial under‐referral of eligible patients in routine clinical practice. This study evaluated the potential role of large language models (LLMs) as decision‐support tools for screening unstructured clinical notes to identify epilepsy surgery candidates and ...

The Eradication of Invasive Mammal Species: Can Adaptive Resource Management Fill the Gaps in our Knowledge?

open access: yesHuman-Wildlife Interactions, 2017
Invasive alien species (IAS) threaten global biodiversity; they are the major cause of species extinction on offshore islands. Management of IAS requires data on the ecology of species in their new environment, how these species respond to management ...

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Metagenomic Analysis of Ready-to-Eat Foods on Retail Sale in the UK Identifies Diverse Genes Related to Antimicrobial Resistance

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), i.e., the evolution of microbes to become resistant to chemicals used to control them, is a global public health concern that can make bacterial diseases untreatable.

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...
