Stratigraphic evidence for modern‐like glacier extents in south‐central Alaska within the last glacial period (MIS 3)

open access: yesBoreas, Volume 55, Issue 2, Page 476-502, April 2026.
The last (Wisconsinan) glacial period was punctuated in North America by two glacial maxima, known as the Early and Late Wisconsinan glaciations. In Alaska, these maxima and their subsequent retreats have been the object of dating efforts to reconstruct local climatic events and compare them to global trends.

Variations in downslope activity and bottom current dynamics in a land‐detached submarine channel system since the Last Glacial Maximum

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 3, Page 620-644, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The Gollum Channel System is a land‐detached large‐scale canyon‐channel system situated offshore southwest Ireland on the Northeast Atlantic margin. The system has been considered inactive with downslope gravity flows since the last glacial period, but geophysical data in some of its branches do suggest Holocene activity.

Field Observations and Geotechnical Modeling of Dune Face Erosion During a Storm (Narrabeen Beach, Australia)

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Quantifying dune face failure during storm wave conditions is critical for improving the predictive capability of coastal erosion models. However, most high‐resolution dune erosion observations used to validate these models were obtained from reduced‐scale laboratory experiments, raising questions about their applicability to field‐scale dunes.

Slumping and Sediment Storage at the Shelf‐Edge: A Case Study From the Kookfontein and Waterford Formations, Tanqua Karoo Depocenter, South Africa

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Block model of Tanqua shelf‐edge delta formation at Katjiesberg, illustrating key stratigraphic features and system relationships interpreted from the Kookfontein‐Waterford formations. Schematic lines A‐E correspond to locations of measured sections. ABSTRACT A low‐gradient shelf‐edge delta system preserved at the Katjiesberg outcrop in the northern ...

A Fluvio‐Lacustrine Environment Preserved in the Jezero Crater Inlet Channel, Neretva Vallis, Mars

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Martian fluvial valleys provide evidence for the surface flow of liquid water, making them a key target for rover‐based investigations of ancient habitability. The Mars 2020 Perseverance rover spent ∼85 sols exploring the Bright Angel formation, exposed across the floor of Neretva Vallis: the western inlet channel of Jezero crater.

Long‐Term (37 Year) Changes in Coastal Dune Slack Plant Communities

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 29, Issue 1, January/March 2026.
A 37‐year resurvey of coastal dune slack vegetation shows stable α‐diversity, increased γ‐diversity alongside declining β‐diversity and habitat quality. Despite conservation grazing, communities shifted towards taller, more homogeneous, shrub‐dominated and nutrient‐tolerant assemblages, highlighting the limits of current grazing regimes and the ...

The Neoproterozoic Throssell Range Group, Western Australia: A Peri‐Marginal Continental Basin in Rodinia and Its Implications for the Centralian Superbasin

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 1, January–February 2026.
This study of recent exploration drillcore reveals two sequences separated by a disconformity. Basal alluvial fan to shallow marine lithofacies suggest reactivation of basement faults, and a distinct upwelling signature points to a flooded margin, controlled by differential subsidence of diverse Proterozoic lithosphere.
