Epidendrum insularis occurs on the remote Alcatrazes Island in the southeastern Brazilian coast. The description of this new cryptic species was only possible by the joint use of molecular markers, reproductive experiments, flower morphometry, functional traits, and community analysis.

Multiple facets of Chlorella ohadii biological properties and potential as a research model and biotechnology platform. Summary Since its isolation from the sand dunes of the Negev Desert over a decade ago, the unicellular green alga Chlorella ohadii has turned into a reference organism for studying photosynthesis, metabolism, and abiotic stress ...

Climate‐of‐origin of Themeda triandra populations used in this study. Summary Hydraulic, stomatal, and anatomical traits strongly influence plant performance under drought, but the extent to which these trait‐types are coordinated and relate to climate‐of‐origin remains vastly underexplored in herbaceous species relative to woody plants.

Leaf nutrient resorption across contrasting soil parent materials: it is not just about efficiency
Box plots showing nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentrations in senesced leaves across contrasting parent materials for four site groups. Summary In theory, nutrient resorption from leaves should be higher in sites with lower soil nutrients, increasing the retention and reuse of nutrients that are limited in supply.

Natural Haloxylon ammodendron populations on the eastern margin of the Badain Jaran Desert showed size‐associated differences in plant height, crown diameter, and spatial patterns among stem‐base diameter classes. These patterns describe morphological spatial variation but do not establish specific environmental drivers.

Sand made from recycled glass cullet could supplement limited dredged river sand (dredge) in coastal wetland restorations; however, its suitability for wetland plants is unknown. In two experiments, we compared the biomass of several wetland plants in recycled glass sand to growth in dredge.

Restoration of coastal dunes following tropical storm events often requires renourishment of sand substrate dredged from offshore sources, although dredging has well‐described negative ecological impacts and high economic costs. As a potential solution, recycled glass sand (cullet) made from crushed glass bottles has been proposed as a potential ...
