Liquefaction potential of reinforced sand

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1994
Abstract A simple stress-controlled cyclic triaxial testing system developed for liquefaction testing is described. Using this system, a series of cyclic undrained triaxial tests were performed on sands with different densities and with different types of reinforcements to investigate the effect of reinforcement in enhancing resistance to ...

Statistical Analysis of Sand Liquefaction

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1981
A consistent set of stochastic models is developed for the liquefaction resistance of a homogeneous mass of sand, such as a laboratory sample or small element of in situ material. A probabilistic model for liquefaction in the laboratory for undrained simple shear tests is developed first.

Cyclic liquefaction strength of sands

Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 1979
AbstractThrough an energy approach, a model is proposed to predict the cyclic liquefaction strength of saturated sands in terms of their static shear strengths. Plots of cyclic liquefaction strength versus relative density and also versus modified standard penetration resistance are presented for various uniformity coefficients and different numbers of

Seismic Response and Liquefaction of Sands

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1976
An effective stress analysis has been developed for determining the dynamic response of horizontal saturated sand deposits to earthquake motions consisting of vertically propagating shear waves. A hyperbolic stress-strain law is used for sands in shear and during the earthquake motions the modulus and damping properties of the sands are modified ...

Specimen Preparation and Liquefaction of Sands

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1974
This note presents results of a liquefaction testing program performed on three different sands, specimens of which were prepared by two common but different methods. Results demonstrate that specimen preparation methods significantly affected the liquefaction behavior.

Liquefaction Screening—Non-plastic Silty Sands and Sands

2018
Liquefaction screening of sands and silty sands using cone penetration resistance is a difficult problem. The presence of silt particles among the sand grains in non-plastic silty soils alter the intergrain contact density and affect cyclic resistance, flow and consolidation characteristics, and cone resistance of the soil.
