Cyclic liquefaction of loose gassy sand

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2000
Gas can be found in many soils, but none more common than in seabed soils. Gas-charged sediments are known to be widely distributed throughout the world's oceans. Numerous research programs have studied saturated soil response to cyclic loading; however, little is known about the behavior of gassy soils subjected to cyclic loading.

Liquefaction Behavior of Sand-Gravel Composites

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1995
To quantify the effect of gravel content on the liquefaction resistance of sand-gravel composites, a series of undrained cyclic triaxial tests was performed on sand-gravel composite specimens with gravel contents of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 100%. Test results show that the liquefaction resistance of sand-gravel composites may increase significantly with ...

Liquefaction resistance of Fraser River sand improved by a microbially-induced cementation

, 2020
Microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) harnesses the natural metabolic action of bacteria to induce the precipitation of calcium carbonate and alter soil engineering properties.

Local and regional evaluation of liquefaction potential index and liquefaction severity number for liquefaction-induced sand boils in pohang, South Korea

, 2020
An earthquake of moment magnitude 5.4 occurred on November 15, 2017 in Pohang, South Korea. This earthquake is the second largest instrumented earthquake ever recorded in South Korea and caused extensive damage to the ground and infrastructures. Hundreds

Liquefaction potential of reinforced silty sands

2015
In this study a series of cyclic triaxial tests were performed to examine the undrained dynamic resistance of silty sand reinforced with various arrangements of geotextile layers. The silt content of samples varies in percentage from 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50%.

Triaxial Testing Techniques and Sand Liquefaction

1978
This investigation examines effects of specimen preparation and testing techniques, that is, loading wave form, degree of saturation, and density variations, on the liquefaction behavior of Monterey No. 0 sand under cyclic loading. The test results indicate that specimen preparation greatly affects the cyclic strength.

LIQUEFACTION POTENTIAL OF SABARMATI-RIVER SAND

ISET Journal of Earthquake Technology, 2011
Liquefaction of saturated sandy soils has been studied by several researchers and liquefaction potential depends on initial confining pressure, relative density, amplitude of cyclic stress etc. The Bhuj earthquake caused extensive damage in several parts of Gujarat.
