Laser Sintering of Silica Sand ? Mechanism and Application to Sand Casting Mould

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2003
Silica sand is commonly used in the foundry industry. With a high melting point of 160°C, the silica sand is normally sintered in a high-temperature furnace. However, silica with contents of calcium, aluminium, magnesium, and chlorine, etc. can form low-melting point eutectics.

FTIR analysis of bentonite in moulding sands

Journal of Molecular Structure, 2008
Abstract Bentonite is used in a wide range of applications. One of them is the foundry industry. The aim of this study was to investigate modification of moulding sands by dust which is generated during foundry process. Recycling of this dust is very important from ecological point of view.

THE DYNAMICS OF SAND MOULDING

International Journal of Production Research, 1967
SUMMARY Elementary theoretical models of the jolt, jolt-squeeze and vibration-squeeze methods of mould compaction are developed. The analysis is taken sufficiently far to display the significant features of each process, and the results appear to be consistent with foundry experience.

Bentonite bonded moulding sands

2018
Sand moulded casting is still one of the most efficient and cheapest methods to produce metal parts of complex shapes. Due to their cyclic reusability and low emission of particles and organic compounds during casting, bentonite bonded sands have an excellent environmental performance.

Modeling of Cement-Bonded Sand Mould System

International Journal of Manufacturing, Materials, and Mechanical Engineering, 2012
The present paper deals with the forward mapping problem of cement bonded sand mould system using fuzzy logic (FL)-based approaches. It is important to note that the performance of an FL-based approach depends on its knowledge base (KB) that is, rule base and data base. Here, three approaches have been proposed to solve the said problem.

Elution of Foundry Sand and Mould Mixture in Water

Materials Testing, 2008
Abstract Over 90% of iron alloy castings are made in disposable moulds, i.e. in raw synthetic moulds. Raw mould mixture is applied in all production process types. Mould mixture is composed of sand as the basic component, binding material, water, and additives.
