The damping of sandwich cantilever beam

Journal of the Chinese Institute of Engineers, 1979
Abstract The natural vibration damping of sandwich cantilever beam has been investigated. A theoretical development for damping calculation has been carried out by considering shear force, normal force and bending moment for both face and core layers. The ratio of thickness between the face and core layer is not constrained.

Indentation of composite sandwich beams

The Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design, 1996
Indentation of a sandwich beam is analysed as linear elastic bending of the top skin on a rigid-perfectly plastic foundation (the core). The theoretical predictions of fracture load from this simple theory are shown to be in good agreement with experimental results from indentation tests on strips of sandwich panel, with glass-fibre-reinforced plastic ...

Damping of honeycomb sandwich beams

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2000
Abstract An experimental investigation was carried out on the damping behaviour of laminated honeycomb cantilever beams with fine solder balls enclosed in the cells as dampers. Attenuation was achieved through the exchange of momentum between the balls and the beam. The effect of the mass ratio (i.e.

Flexural Stiffness of Sandwich Beams

Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 1975
Abstract Two new theories have been developed for predicting the bending stiffness of sandwich beams. The first theory applies to the general case of any combination of skin and core while the second, but simpler, treatment may be used for shear-soft cores.

Bending of curved sandwich beams

Composite Structures, 1995
Curved sandwich beams in bending are analyzed with analytical elasticity methods and compared to simple analytical formulae and FEM calculations. Solutions to Airy's stress function in polar co-ordinates are used to obtain the stress distributions in the radial and circumferential directions.

Exact solution of sandwich beams

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1995
Seriously non-uniform warping cross-sections due to shear effects sharply expose the essential difference between solid and sandwich beams. Actually, the deflected configuration and stress distributions in sandwich beams are far beyond the scope that the elementary bending theory is applicable for their description.

Dynamic analysis of sandwich beams

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1972
Abstract A finite element analysis technique which includes the effect of transverse shear deformation for honeycomb sandwich beams is described. The discrete element employed has six degrees of freedom per node corresponding to ν, ∂ν ∂y , φ, ∂φ ∂y , w and ∂w ∂y .

Dynamic optimization of a sandwich beam

Computers & Structures, 1984
Analytical procedure for the determination of the least weight design sandwich beam which satisfies a specific frequency requirement is presented. The approach is to modify an initial design by varying the thickness of each of its different layers. This is accomplished using gradient equations to first obtain the correct beam fundamental frequency and ...

Core Failure of Sandwich Beams

2003
Core failure modes were studied in composite sandwich beams under three-point bending and in cantilever beams under end loading. The beams consisted of unidirectional carbon/epoxy face sheets and a variety of core materials, including aluminum honeycomb, PVC closed-cell foams, polyurethane foam and balsa wood.
