All-composite honeycomb core sandwich structures: Master curves for stiffness-based design

open access: yesForces in Mechanics, 2022
Composite-walled hexagonal honeycomb core is considered for stiffness-based design. It is shown that the torsional and flexural stiffnesses of its all-composite sandwich may be 3- and 8-times higher, respectively, compared to structural foam core ...

Study on the Energy Absorption Characteristics of Different Composite Honeycomb Sandwich Structures under Impact Energy

open access: yesApplied Sciences
A honeycomb structure is a sandwich structure widely used in fuselage, among which the hexagonal honeycomb core is the most widely used. The energy absorption characteristics and impedance ability of the structure are the main reasons that directly ...

Detection and Characterization of Debonding Defects in Aeronautical Honeycomb Sandwich Composites Using Noncontact Air-Coupled Ultrasonic Testing Technique

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The finite models of honeycomb sandwich composite with intact and embedded debonding defects are constructed. The sound pressure in fluid domain and the stress strain problem in solid domain are related by acoustic-structure coupling method, which ...

Blast Performance of Composite Sandwich Structures

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2017
Abstract A range of composite sandwich panels with different polymeric foam cores and face-sheets were subjected to full-scale air and underwater blast testing. The air blast panels had glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) face-sheets with three different polymeric foam cores: styrene acrylonitrile (SAN), polyvinylchloride (PVC) and ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Failure Modes of Composite Sandwich Beams

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics, 2008
A thorough investigation of failure behavior of composite sandwich beams under three-and four-point bending was undertaken. The beams were made of unidirectional carbon/epoxy facings and a PVC closed-cell foam core. The constituent materials were fully characterized and in the case of the foam core, failure envelopes were developed for general two ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.
