Application of non destructive testing to the detection of aeronautical defects in composite structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A study of two Non-destructive Testing methods (NDT) was carried out in specimens with different kinds of simulated defects. Ultrasonics test (US) and Infrared Thermography (IRT) were applied with the aim to evaluate the detectability and the accuracy of

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

Chemoselective Sequential Polymerization: An Approach Toward Mixed Plastic Waste Recycling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological protein metabolism, this study demonstrates the closed‐loop recycling of mixed synthetic polymers via ring‐closing depolymerization followed by a chemoselective sequential polymerizations process. The approach recovers pure polymers from mixed feedstocks, even in multilayer formats, highlighting a promising strategy to overcome a

Open-mode delamination stress concentrations in horseshoe and elliptic composite curved bars subjected to end forces [PDF]

open access: yes
The multilayer theory of anisotropic elasticity and a finite element method were used to analyze the open-mode delamination stress concentrations in horseshoe and elliptic laminated composite curved bars.

The structural behavior of tiled laminate GFRP composites, a class of robust materials for civil applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper focuses on the structural behavior of tiled laminate composites. Such laminates, in which the plies are not parallel to the outer surfaces are found in GFRP bridge deck panels.

Nanoscale Mapping of Plasmonic Charge Transport in Nano‐Resonators Based on Resistive Switching Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this strategy, a conductive nano‐probe is employed to induce nanoscale phase transitions and map the nanoscale conductivity and trap density of GST films. By utilizing the contrasting properties of phase‐change states, nano‐resonators are fabricated that exhibit plasmonic conduction and dramatically different transport characteristics.

Fracture of sandwiched composites

open access: yes, 2018
Fracture of a pair of collinear cracks in various materials, such as an isotropic strip, an orthotropic strip, a bonded isotropic adhesive layer, and sandwiched orthotropic layers, is investigated. The crack surfaces are subjected to an arbitrary opening pressure p(x).
