Global buckling and post-buckling of web-core sandwich and stiffened panels: sensitivity to general corrosion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Corrosion can lead to reduction of structural stiffness and strength. This paper investigates the influence of a reduction in the thickness of the plates as a result of general corrosion on sandwich panel buckling load and onset of plasticity.

Review of Thin Lithium Metal Battery Anode Fabrication – Microstructure – Electrochemistry Relations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thin, lightweight lithium‐metal anodes are pivotal for practical high‐energy batteries. This review surveys processing routes that convert diverse Li precursors, e.g., ingots, melts, solutions, and vapor, into Li‐rich foils with controlled thickness, areal density, and tailored functionality.

Tailored Redox‐Active Catholytes Enabling High‐Rate and High‐Loading All‐Solid‐State Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores iodine substitution in solid electrolytes to overcome sluggish redox kinetics and poor charge transport in all‐solid‐state Li‐S batteries. The resulting iodine‐rich, amorphous phase and superionic, nanocrystalline domains enable effective redox mediation and provide a robust ionic percolation network.

On the mechanisms of modal damping in FRP/honeycomb sandwich panels

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2018
Sandwich panels made of fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) skins and a honeycomb core can be effectively damped through the choice of the skin and especially of the core materials.

A New Affordable Masonry System Based on Unfired Clay Sandwich Panel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Nowadays, construction is one of the main sectors that produces waste and consume more materials and energy, so there is a growing need for alternative construction technologies that allow us to modify this situation.

Peptide‐Induced Ferroelectricity in Charge‐Transfer Supramolecular Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐inspired supramolecular charge‐transfer amphiphiles self‐assemble into nanoribbons in water, where peptide chirality‐induced symmetry breaking generates robust ferroelectricity across multiple systems. These water‐processable organic ferroelectrics also enhance neuronal outgrowth and electrophysiological maturity, offering a versatile strategy for ...

Solar concentrators for advanced solar-dynamic power systems in space [PDF]

open access: yes
This report summarizes the results of a study performed by Hughes Danbury Optical Systems, HDOS, (formerly Perkin-Elmer) to design, fabricate, and test a lightweight (2 kg/sq M), self supporting, and highly reflective sub-scale concentrating mirror panel

High‐Performance Zero‐Gap Glycerol‐Fed Electrolyzer for C3 Chemicals and Hydrogen Production

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a dynamic, self‐regulating operation strategy that enables selective glycerol electrooxidation in the OER‐free regime, co‐producing C3 chemicals and hydrogen at cell voltages below 1.25 V. Voltage‐ and temperature‐resolved analyses define optimal operating conditions, achieving a sustained current density of 500 mA cm−2 at ∼1.21 V ...
