Crossover of the weighted mean fragment mass scaling in 2D brittle fragmentation

open access: yes, 2004
We performed vertical and horizontal sandwich 2D brittle fragmentation experiments. The weighted mean fragment mass was scaled using the multiplicity $\mu$. The scaling exponent crossed over at $\log \mu_c \simeq -1.4$.

Coordinated Multi‐Component Gradient Engineering of Catalyst Layers for Advanced Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a continuous linear gradient catalyst layer design, a general strategy for improving membrane electrode assemblies across electrochemical devices. Fabricated via a dual‐nozzle spray coating method, the architecture controls the Pt/carbon ratio, ionomer content and ionomer type across the catalyst layer, enhancing proton conduction ...

Effect of Explosive Reactive Armour Cover Plate on Interaction of ERA and Explosively Formed Projectile

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2019
Explosive reactive armour (ERA) is used to protect the armoured vehicles against chemical energy warheads and long-rod penetrators. ERA generally consists of an ERA sandwich and an outer steel cover to protect it from unintended initiation.

Dynamic Behaviour of a Continuous Heat Exchanger/Reactor after Flow Failure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The intensified technologies offer new prospects for the development of hazardous chemical syntheses in safer conditions: the idea is to reduce the reaction volume by increasing the thermal performances and preferring the continuous mode to the batch one.

Modeling impact on aluminium sandwich including velocity effects in honeycomb core [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A numerical model has been developed on metallic sandwich structures as an armor for aeronautical applications. Several combinations of AA5086-H111 aluminium skins and aluminium honeycomb core have been studied, considering medium-velocity and highenergy

Analysis of the Electrochemical Stability of Sulfide Solid Electrolyte Dry Films for Improved Dry‐Processed Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An adapted processing for solvent‐free argyrodite solid electrolyte films based on insights into degradation mechanisms of the widely used binder polytetrafluoroethylene is presented. By adapting the dry film processing, long‐term cycling in Si||NMC pouch cells is demonstrated over more than 1000 cycles with a capacity retention of more than 80%, and ...

Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers as Soft Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) can be actuated via electromechanical, electrochemical, or electrothermal effects. a) Electromechanical effects include Maxwell stress, electrostriction, and the electroclinic effect. b) Electrochemical effects arise from electrode redox reactions.

Free Vibrations and Nonlinear Responses for a Cantilever Honeycomb Sandwich Plate

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
Dynamics of a cantilever honeycomb sandwich plate are studied in this paper. The governing equations of the composite plate subjected to both in-plane and transverse excitations are derived by using Hamilton’s principle and Reddy’s third-order shear ...
