Nonsinusoidal Buckling Modes of Sandwich Plates
Journal of the Aeronautical Sciences, 1954Both wrinkling and "quasi-Euler" buckling modes of sandwich plates have hitherto been taken as sinusoidal. In this report the possibility of nonsinusoidal modes is investigated. The core slab material considered is the special orthotropic one which does not resist deformation in its own plane, but only extension and shear ing perpendicular to its ...

Analysis and design of sandwich plates with inserts—a high-order sandwich plate theory approach
Composites Part B: Engineering, 1998Abstract Sandwich structures are very susceptible to failure due to local stress concentrations induced in areas of load introduction, supports, geometrical and material discontinuities. These local stress concentrations are caused by localised bending effects, where the individual face sheets tend to bend about their own middle surface rather than ...

Higher-Order Finite Element for Sandwich Plates
AIAA Journal, 1998A finite element model for the analysis of sandwich plates with laminated composites face-sheets is developed. In the model, the face-sheets are represented as ReissnerMindlin plates and therefore include shear deformation effects. The core is modelled as a three-dimensional continuum in which the through-thickness representation of the displacement ...

Deflection of Orthotropic Sandwich Plates
AIAA Journal, 1972T paper presents a portion of the results of analytical and experimental studies on the deflection of simply-supported, transversely loaded, Orthotropic sandwich plates. Various core depths, face sheet thicknesses, and aspect ratios of the plate are treated in the investigation.

Dynamic behaviour of sandwich plates
ZAMP Zeitschrift fr angewandte Mathematik und Physik, 1986This paper discusses the physical behaviour of “bending” waves in sandwich plates in which the facings are thin, stiff and heavy as compared with the core. By means of asymptotic expansions of the basic equations of linear elasticity, it is shown that different “physical mechanims” predominate in different frequency ranges.

Acoustic behavior of sandwich plates
Journal of Sandwich Structures & Materials, 2014Sandwich structures of honeycomb cores and carbon laminate face sheets are ideal to meet low-weight and high-stiffness specifications. However, these structures are susceptible to noise problems. They tend to radiate structure-borne sound very efficiently or be transparent for air-borne sound.

Vibration Control of Sandwich Plates
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014This paper presents the active control of vibrations of sandwich plates using piezoelectric composites (PZC). The top surface of the plate is integrated with the patches of active constrained layer damping treatment. Active fiber composite, one of the commercially available PZCs, is used as the material of the constraining layer of the patches and the ...

Perforation of cellular sandwich plates
International Journal of Impact Engineering, 1997Abstract An experimental investigation has been conducted to study the perforation characteristics in the axial direction of cellular sandwich plates, as well as of its individual components. The covers encompassed an aluminum alloy and acrylonitrile-betadyne styrene (ABS), while the cores consisted of honeycombs or flexible sheets of aluminum ...

Flexural Vibrations of Elastic Sandwich Plates
Journal of the Aerospace Sciences, 1960The new flexural thecny of elastic sandwich plates developed in two recent papers2 includes the effects of transverse shear deformations, rotatory and translatory inertias, and flexural and extensional rigidities, with no limitations imposed upon the magnitudes of the ratios between the thicknesses, material densities, and elastic constants of the core
