Who gets public goods? Effects of ethnic diversity and exclusion on urban and rural populations' access to water and sanitation

open access: yesRisk, Hazards &Crisis in Public Policy, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 366-388, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Why do some countries provide better access to life‐saving public goods than others? An enduring explanation from the political economy literature points to ethnic heterogeneity in impeding public goods provision. However, previous studies have not examined how the “diversity deficit” directly affects access to improved water and sanitation, a

Challenges for Circular Economy under the EU 2020/741 Wastewater Reuse Regulation

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2023., 2023
Reg EU 2020/741 introduces minimum requirements for urban wastewater reuse and requires definition of risk management and transparency. The real impact of regulation in circular economy objectives will be limited by water scarcity, downstream cascade reuse, and crop profitability. The social acceptance is critical for success. Abstract Wastewater reuse

Producing ethical water: Anti‐mining activism and conflicts over municipal water provisioning in Cuenca, Ecuador

open access: yesThe Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, Volume 27, Issue 4, Page 575-586, December 2022., 2022
Abstract When gold deposits were confirmed in a community watershed in 2005, water became a politically charged arena for anti‐mining activism. Vegetation effects on soil pore structure and hydraulic properties in volcanic ash soils of the high Andes

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 36, Issue 9, September 2022., 2022
In volcanic ash soils of the high Andes, vegetation has a significant effect on soil hydraulic properties in the A horizon. Water retention, total available water, and saturated hydraulic conductivity are higher under cushion‐forming plants than under tussock grasses due to differences in soil pore structure.

Water chemistry variation in tropical high‐mountain lakes on old volcanic bedrocks

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 67, Issue 7, Page 1522-1536, July 2022., 2022
Abstract Water chemistry and its ecological implications have been extensively investigated in temperate high‐mountain lakes because of their role as sentinels of global change. However, few studies have considered the drivers of water chemistry in tropical mountain lakes underlain by volcanic bedrock.

Retrieval of Simultaneous Water‐Level Changes in Small Lakes With InSAR

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 49, Issue 2, 28 January 2022., 2022
Abstract Monitoring water level changes is necessary to manage, conserve and restore natural, and anthropogenic lake systems. However, the in‐situ monitoring of lake systems is unfeasible due to limitations of costs and access. Furthermore, current remote sensing methods are restricted to large lakes and low spatial resolutions.

Remunicipalisation, Mutating Neoliberalism, and the Conjuncture

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 54, Issue 1, Page 197-217, January 2022., 2022
Abstract There is a growing interest in the progressive potential of remunicipalisation, a global trend for towns, cities, and even subnational regions to take formerly privatised assets and services back into public ownership. In this paper, we offer a novel conceptualisation of remunicipalisation, developing a spatialised conjunctural perspective ...
