Ecological Entomology, EarlyView.Scale insect abundance peaked in the upper canopy of sugar maples. Parthenolecanium peaked on older internodes; Lepidosaphes on the current leader. Internodes longer than the previous carried more scales; wider ones fewer. Abstract Forest canopies are vertically stratified habitats in which microclimate and host tissue quality vary with height.
