Ingestive behaviors in bearded capuchins (Sapajus libidinosus) [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
AbstractThe biomechanical and adaptive significance of variation in craniodental and mandibular morphology in fossil hominins is not always clear, at least in part because of a poor understanding of how different feeding behaviors impact feeding system design (form–function relationships).

Taxonomic and sex differences in sagittal cresting among gracile and robust capuchin monkeys. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Anat
In this study, I show that there are interspecific differences in the frequency and pattern of sagittal cresting among six capuchin species. Four of the six species show sagittal cresting, with Cebus capucinus showing a different sagittal cresting pattern to that observed in three robust capuchin species. All four crested species show sexual dimorphism

Stone anvil damage by wild bearded capuchins (Sapajus libidinosus) during pounding tool use: a field experiment. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
We recorded the damage that wild bearded capuchin monkeys (Sapajus libidinosus) caused to a sandstone anvil during pounding stone tool use, in an experimental setting. The anvil was undamaged when set up at the Fazenda Boa Vista (FBV) field laboratory in

Characterization of Stone Tool Use in Wild Groups of Critically Endangered Yellow-Breasted Capuchin Monkeys (Sapajus xanthosternos). [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Biol Anthropol
First camera trap video footage for wild Sapajus xanthosternos cracking resistant nuts with stone tools. ABSTRACT Objectives A hallmark of hominin evolution is the advent and diversification of stone tool use, and biological anthropologists have a particular interest in characterizing tool use behaviors in different hominin species.

Contexts of Anointing Behavior in a Group of Blond Capuchin Monkeys (Sapajus flavius) Inhabiting an Atlantic Forest Fragment. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Primatol
Wild blond capuchin anoints with millipede species that secrete a chemical capable of repelling ectoparasites, suggesting a self‐medicative function. Social and solitary anointing bouts occurred at similar frequencies, but with greater engagement by adult males, indicating that anointing is a multifunctional behavior.
