A new species of Trichilia (Meliaceae) from Southeastern Brazil is here described, illustrated and compared to its closest related species. Trichilia arenaria sp. nov. is morphologically similar to T. casaretti, T. elegans and T. pallens.

Premise of the StudyToona (Meliaceae, Sapindales) is a small genus of five species of trees native from southern and eastern Asia to New Guinea and Australia. Complete plastomes were sequenced for three Toona species to provide a basis for future plastome genetic studies in threatened species of Toona.
