Sapovirus as a gastrointestinal pathogen in febrile pediatric patients with cancer
Journal of Medical Virology, 2011AbstractHuman caliciviruses are the second most common cause of viral gastroenteritis after rotavirus in children. Unlike norovirus, sapovirus infection is less well characterized and defined in the clinical setting of gastrointestinal disease, and there are no reports of sapovirus infections in pediatric oncology patients receiving chemotherapy ...

Intrahost viral evolution during chronic sapovirus infections
Journal of Clinical Virology, 2019Sapovirus is a common cause of self-limiting diarrhea. In immunocompromised individuals chronic infections occur, but are incompletely investigated. To investigate viral evolution in immunocompromised hosts during chronic sapovirus infection. From January 2010 to September 2018 stool samples of 5333 in-patients were analyzed for the presence of sapovirus

Genetic variability in the sapovirus capsid protein [PDF]
Sapovirus (SV), which causes gastroenteritis in humans, is composed of genetically divergent viruses classified into 5 genogroups. In this study, 2.2-kb nucleotide sequences of the 3' terminus of the genome of 15 SV strains detected in Japan were determined. The 15 SV strains could be classified into four genogroups (GI, GII, GIV and GV), and in two of

Sapoviruses are a group of viruses within the family Caliciviridae that cause acute gastroenteritis in both humans and animals. Previously considered as an exclusively pediatric pathogen, sapoviruses are now recognized to cause disease across all age groups and in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, long-term care facilities, cruise ...

The real-time detection of sapovirus
Journal of Clinical Virology, 20061 d n the UK (Simpson et al., 2003). Sapovirus is thought to e the least common of the main viral causes of IID but it s rarely tested for in the UK. Consequently the true burden f sapovirus has yet to be determined. Sensitive diagnosis is mportant as it improves patient management and the utility of ational surveillance data.

A confirmation of sapovirus re-infection gastroenteritis cases with different genogroups and genetic shifts in the evolving sapovirus genotypes, 2002-2011 [PDF]
Sapovirus (SaV) is an important pathogen that causes acute gastroenteritis in humans. Human SaV is highly diverse genetically and is classified into multiple genogroups and genotypes. At present, there is no clear evidence for gastroenteritis cases caused by re-infection with SaV.

A nosocomial sapovirus-associated outbreak of gastroenteritis in adults
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2005The human caliciviruses norovirus and sapovirus are leading causes of acute, non-bacterial gastroenteritis. In contrast to norovirus, sapovirus is known to give infections mainly in infants and young children. We describe a nosocomial outbreak of gastroenteritis associated with sapovirus involving 23 adult patients and medical staff.

Sapovirus-like particles derived from polyprotein
Virus Research, 2008We expressed full-length sapovirus genome constructs in insect cells and analyzed their products. The capsid protein was cleaved from the ORF1 polyprotein from a native-like genome construct and two full-length genome constructs with mutations in an active polymerase motif, whereas the capsid protein was not cleaved from a full-length genome construct ...

Two gastroenteritis outbreaks caused by sapovirus in Shenzhen, China
Journal of Medical Virology, 2018Human sapoviruses (SaVs) are a common cause of the acute gastroenteritis epidemic worldwide, and SaV outbreaks and infections have become more frequent in recent years. Since the end of December, 2015 to December, 2016, 2 gastroenteritis outbreaks occurred in 2 kindergarten classes (outbreaks A and B) in the Baoan district, Shenzhen, China.

Identification of genetic diversity of porcine Norovirus and Sapovirus in Korea
Virus Genes, 2011It is well known that Norovirus (NoV) and Sapovirus (SaV) identified in humans and pigs have heterogeneous genome sequences. In this study, a total of three strains of NoV and 37 strains of SaV were detected in 567 porcine fecal samples by RT-PCR, corresponding detection rates of 0.5 and 6.5%, respectively.
