Sapphire

Proceedings of the 2001 joint ACM-ISCOPE conference on Java Grande, 2001
Many concurrent garbage collection (GC) algorithms have been devised, but few have been implemented and evaluated, particularly for the Java programming language. Sapphire is an algorithm we have devised for concurrent copying GC. Sapphire stresses minimizing the amount of time any given application thread may need to block to support the collector. In

Sapphire

Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on the Internet of Things, 2018
The increasing popularity of IoT devices in both residences and enterprises has widened the attack surface for network connected devices. Many popular IoT devices have unpatched vulnerabilities or default passwords and lack basic security mechanisms, making them easy prey for malware and botnets.

Crack formation in sapphire/niobium/sapphire joints under compression

Journal of Materials Science, 2000
Compression tests were carried out on UHV diffusion bonded single crystalline sapphire/Nb/sapphire joints to investigate their mechanical properties, the mechanisms that lead to the failure of the joints and the dislocation-interface interaction.

Superpolishing Sapphire

Optical Fabrication and Testing, 1990
We discuss superpolishing of a-cut sapphire which leads to a residual roughness less then 0.05 nm rms. There remains no damage layer. Polishing time is typically 15 to 30 minutes. The flatness is determined mainly by prepolishing. Curved surfaces can also be polished by this method. The lowest roughness is achieved, if removal rates are low, i.e. about
