Effective Survey Methods for the Elusive Data Deficient Black Flying Squirrel (Aeromys tephromelas) in Sabah, Malaysia Facilitate First Vocalisation Record

open access: yesAnimals
Flying squirrels are nocturnal, gliding relatives of tree and ground squirrels (order Sciuridae). Despite 49 species existing, literature on Asiatic flying squirrels is scarce, thus they are overlooked in conservation action plans.

Development of Auto-Seeding System Using Image Processing Technology in the Sapphire Crystal Growth Process via the Kyropoulos Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
The Kyropoulos (Ky) and Czochralski (Cz) methods of crystal growth are used for large-diameter single crystals. The seeding process in these methods must induce initial crystallization by initiating contact between the seed crystals and the surface of ...

Enhancing Direct Solar Water Splitting via ALD of Multifunctional TiO2/Pt Nanoparticle Coatings With Engineered Interfaces to GaAs/GaInP Tandem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multifunctional atomic layer deposited coatings and interface treatments enhance direct solar water splitting on GaAs/GaInP tandem cells. Optimized TiO2/Pt nanoparticle bilayers ensure durability and catalytic efficiency with minimal optical losses, while H2 plasma pretreatments maximize photovoltage and interfacial charge extraction.

FEM Modeling of the Temperature Influence on the Performance of SAW Sensors Operating at GigaHertz Frequency Range and at High Temperature Up to 500 °C

open access: yesSensors, 2020
In this work, we present a two-dimensional Finite Element Method (2D-FEM) model implemented on a commercial software, COMSOL Multiphysics, that is used to predict the high temperature behavior of surface acoustic wave sensors based on layered structures.

Influence of Hysteresis on Magnetocaloric Performance at Cryogenic Temperatures: A Tb3Ni Case Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The existence of an inverse magnetocaloric effect in metamagnetic materials at cryogenic temperatures is investigated using multiple methods. Contrary to predictions from magnetization data, neither specific heat nor pulsed‐field measurements show such a cooling effect, instead indicating irreversible heating.

Field‐Free Spin–Orbit Torque Switching of Perpendicular Magnetization by PtTe2/WTe2 Bilayers at Sub‐ns Timescales

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates ultrafast, field‐free spin–orbit torque (SOT) switching using a PtTe2/WTe2/CoFeB multilayer, achieving sub‐nanosecond magnetization reversal with record‐low energy consumption. The PtTe2/WTe2 bilayer generates an intrinsic out‐of‐plane spin current, enabling deterministic switching without external fields.

Electrically Binary and Ternary Convertible CMOS Inverter and Logic Gate Using Complementary Field‐Effect Transistors Based on Vertically Stacked MoS2/WSe2 n‐/p‐ Field‐Effect Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, a reconfigurable T‐CMOS inverter based on vertically stacked MoS2 and WSe2 MOSFETs with a gate‐tunable MoS2 resistor, enabling stable ternary logic, is demonstrated. The T‐CMOS inverter supports electrical switching between ternary and binary modes and is further extended to implement ternary NAND (NMIN) and NOR (NMAX) logic gates ...
