Universal In Situ Isotope Exchange Raman Spectroscopy (IERS) Methodology for Measuring Oxygen Surface Exchange Dynamics Using a Probe Layer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bespoke multilayer thin film configuration has been designed, which overcomes the material dependency of conventional isotope exchange Raman spectroscopy (IERS). This universal IERS methodology is efficient, non‐destructive and provides additional structural information and time resolution, which can be further extended to various isotopic elements ...

Metallic liquid hydrogen and likely Al2O3 metallic glass

open access: yes, 2011
Dynamic compression has been used to synthesize liquid metallic hydrogen at 140 GPa (1.4 million bar) and experimental data and theory predict Al2O3 might be a metallic glass at ~300 GPa.

Wavelength Tunability of Ion-bombardment Induced Ripples on Sapphire

open access: yes, 2006
A study of ripple formation on sapphire surfaces by 300-2000 eV Ar+ ion bombardment is presented. Surface characterization by in-situ synchrotron grazing incidence small angle x-ray scattering and ex-situ atomic force microscopy is performed in order to ...

Quasi-monolithic mirror suspensions in ground-based gravitational wave detectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
At the commencement of a new era in astrophysics, with added information from direct detections of gravitational-wave (GW) signals, this paper is a testament to the quasi-monolithic suspensions of the test masses of the GW detectors that have enabled the

Magnetic and Structural Response Tuned by Coexisting Mn Concentration‐Dependent Phases in MnBi2Te4 Thin Film Grown on GaAs(001) by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study explores structural and magnetic properties of one of the most recent topological quantum materials (MnBi2Te4). The Mn‐poor structure leads to stacking faults (quintuple layer ‐ QL of Bi2Te3 formation instead of a septuple layer ‐ SL of MnBi2Te4), resulting in a coexistence between weak antiferromagnetism and ferromagnetism.

Growth of Millimeter‐Sized BaTaO2N Single Crystals by an NH3‐Assisted BaCl2 Flux Method

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Millimeter‐sized BaTaO2N single crystals are successfully grown from a BaCl2 flux under NH3 flow. Their comprehensive characterization, including dielectric properties, is demonstrated, and the possible growth mechanisms are discussed. Abstract Perovskite‐type oxynitrides have attracted considerable attention due to their excellent photocatalytic ...
