Picea abies sapwood width: Variations within and between trees
Scandinavian Journal of Forest Research, 2006This study focused on the amount of sapwood and its variation by means of computed tomographic (CT) imaging. Twenty-four trees were selected from four Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst.] stands in north-eastern France, varying in age, density and fertility.

Sapwood and heartwood taper in Scots pine stems
Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 1995The heartwood and sapwood of Pinussylvestris L. were analysed using simultaneous taper models for stem without bark and for heartwood. Sapwood area tapered monotonically from the base to the top of the stem. Below crown base the stem tapered more slowly than in the crown.
