Synovial sarcomas of the pericardium are very rare. This report describes the case of a 61-year-old man presenting with increasing dyspnea on exertion and recurrent pericardial effusions. Echocardiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a 6 x 4-cm pericardial mass lying predominantly over the left atrium.

Although intralesional calcification is a common finding of synovial sarcoma, ossification is an unusual phenomenon in such a soft tissue sarcoma. Here we report a case of ossifying synovial sarcoma arising in the back of a young adult man. Microscopically, the tumor was composed of spindle or oval cells together with foci of atypical polygonal cells ...

Analysis of the clinicopathological features and the available follow-up data in 32 patients with extensively calcified synovial sarcoma revealed an age incidence and anatomic distribution similar to that of ordinary synovial sarcomas without or with minimal calcification, but indicated a more favorable survival.

We report a rare case of a primary synovial sarcoma of the pericardium. Surgical resection was incomplete and chemotherapy and radiotherapy (tomotherapy) were therefore administered. Regular cardiac magnetic resonance imaging scans were used throughout the follow-up, allowing effective planning and application of adjuvant therapies. The survival of our

During the period 1962-1984, 26 cases of synovial sarcoma were seen in the center for bone and soft tissue tumours in Arhus, Denmark. None of the tumours were located in direct relation to bursa or joint cavities and the majority of the patients were initially operated in other hospitals and subsequently referred to the centre.
