Dragon fruit (pitaya; Hylocereus undatus) is a promising, new high‐value crop in New Zealand. The large nocturnal flowers open for one night and close early in the morning the following day over a 3‐ to 6‐month long flowering period. In dragon fruit's native range, hawkmoths and bats are key nocturnal pollinators, and honey bees visit flowers during ...

New records of Sarcophagidae from Turkey (Diptera) [PDF]
Faunistic records of 68 flesh fly species are presented, and altogether, 22 species are recorded from Turkey for the first time. A further 46 species were recorded for the first time in at least one Turkish province. This paper presents the first locality data for four additional species, which were previously mentioned only generically in catalogues ...

Amphibian Strategies Against Attacks by Flies: Host‐Specificity and Threats
Species interactions between Diptera flies and amphibians play a significant role in tropical ecosystems, but their ecology and evolution remain understudied. This review explores the costs flies impose on amphibians, such as pathogen transmission and disruption of communication systems, and highlights the evolutionary strategies employed by both ...

The complete mitochondrial genome of Sarcophaga tuberosa (Diptera: Sarcophagidae)
Sarcophaga tuberosa has certain sanitary and epidemiological significance and takes proteins from decaying matter. In this study, we first sequenced and analyzed the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of S. tuberosa.

Phylogenomics and the evolution of larval feeding habits in the blow flies (Diptera: Calliphoridae)
Phylogenomic data from anchored hybrid enrichment provide a new phylogeny of Calliphoridae that delimits the family and confirms division into eight monophyletic subfamilies. Fossil‐calibrated divergence times place the origin of Calliphoridae in the mid‐Eocene (ca. 41 Mya) along with other rapidly radiating families of oestroid Diptera. Reconstruction

Phylogenomics of Anthomyiidae and a revised classification of Scathophagidae (Diptera: Calyptratae)
Family Anthomyiidae is revised using a broad sampling of genera, including the Neotropical Coenosopsia and Phaonantho, which are recovered as Coenosopsiinae Bailey & Michelsen (subfam. nov.). The former family Scathophagidae is recovered within the family Anthomyiidae with strong support and relegated to subfamily rank as Scathophaginae (stat.

Abstract In the coming decades, there is expected to be a sharply increased demand for dietary proteins for humans and animals. As a result, there is an increasing focus on reared insects as a new source of protein. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), the use of food chain residual flows such as former foodstuffs as
