Stress in dipteran insects mass‐reared for sterile insect technique applications

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 32, Issue 5, Page 1495-1523, October 2025.
The connections between biotic and abiotic stress affecting mass‐reared dipteran insects and the associated stress and immunological responses. Numbers indicate the order in which the topics are discussed in this review. Abstract Stress may be viewed as the disturbance of homeostasis of an organism.

Estudos sobre a fauna de Sarcophagidae (Diptera) de Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. III - atratividade das iscas

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1984

PARASITÓIDES DE Oxysarcodexia thornax (Walker 1849) (DIPTERA: SARCOPHAGIDAE) COLETADOS NO ESTADO DE GOIÁS, BRASIL

open access: diamondNeotropical Entomology, 2011
Sarcophagidae (Diptera) are potential vectors of several pathogens. They are also very important in forensic entomology, providing basic information on the circumstances of death. The objective of this study was to determine the synanthropic index of adult Sarcophagidae collected in Rio Claro, state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil.

Pig carcass decomposition dynamics: Insights into carcass disposal for emergency animal disease management

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 103, Issue 9, Page 542-558, September 2025.
Australia is free from many economically devastating emergency animal diseases (EADs) that threaten livestock production in neighbouring countries. In Australia, an important consideration for EAD control is managing susceptible feral animal populations, especially in remote and inaccessible areas where carcass disposal poses considerable logistical ...

Diversity of Sarcophagidae (Insecta, Diptera) associated with decomposing carcasses in a rural area of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil

open access: yesEntomoBrasilis, 2019
. Cerrado biome presents high biodiversity, but it still lacks works that focus on entomological inventories. New records for species of Sarcophagidae were provided, including the first record of Blaesoxipha (Acridiophaga) caridei (Brèthes) to Brazil ...

Impacts of proactive health management on cattle and horse diets and dung biodiversity in Danish rewilding areas

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 8, Page 1856-1877, August 2025.
Our findings demonstrate functional differences between cattle and horses, which suggest complementary effects on vegetation development and consequently biodiversity. Also, our results indicate that this functionality is impacted by proactive health management actions.

Lords of the flies: dipteran migrants are diverse, abundant and ecologically important

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 4, Page 1635-1659, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Insect migrants are hugely abundant, with recent studies identifying the megadiverse order Diptera as the major component of many migratory assemblages. Despite this, their migratory behaviour has been widely overlooked in favour of more ‘charismatic’ migrant insects such as butterflies, dragonflies, and moths.

Species Diversity and Relative Abundance of Medically Importance Flies in Golestan Province, 2018-19

open access: yesArmaghane Danesh Bimonthly Journal, 2020
Background & aim:  Flies are important in the region in terms of mechanical transmission of pathogens, sciatica and forensic entomological research. Identification of species in different regions is the first and most important way to control vector ...

Assessing predation pressure of Vespa velutina on local fauna through DNA metabarcoding

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, Volume 326, Issue 4, Page 329-338, August 2025.
This study investigates the predation pressure exerted by the invasive yellow‐legged hornet (Vespa velutina) on native insect populations in Mallorca, using DNA metabarcoding to analyze their diet. Results reveal a diverse prey spectrum, including key insect groups such as Apidae (bees), Calliphoridae (blowflies), and Vespidae (wasps), with no ...
