Satellite systems for personal communication networks

Wireless Networks, 1998
The paper addresses some issues related to Satellite Personal Communication Networks (S-PCNs). The role of satellite communications in that scenario is discussed, and some characteristics of S-PCNs are identified. In addition, the problem of the integration of S-PCNs with the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) is considered.

Satellite systems for personal communications

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1997
A number of industry groups are planning to construct satellite systems that will provide a personal communications service (PCS) (typically voice, data, and fax) to users over small, hand-held, cellular-type telephones. Some of these systems (e.g., Iridium and Globalstar) will be constructed using satellites in low Earth orbit.

Issues in satellite personal communication systems

Wireless Networks, 1998
In the paper various issues in personal satellite communications are addressed. Basic geostationary and non-geostationary satellite constellations are considered. The narrowband and wideband characterization of the mobile satellite channel and related system implications are discussed.

Satellite Communication Systems

2004
Satellite-based communication has become a major facet of the telecommunication industry for two major reasons. First, it provides a means of broadcasting information to a large number of people simultaneously. Thus, satellite communication systems are an important ingredient in the implementation of a global communication infrastructure.

Propagation considerations in satellite communication systems

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1990
Radiowave propagation phenomena that affect the performance of satellite communication systems are concisely discussed to introduce some topics in propagation research related to satellite systems design and to illustrate related problems and uncertainties. The focus is on tropospheric effects. A summary of relevant propagation impairments is supplied,

Satellite communication systems

Physics Bulletin, 1965
Within the last few months satellite communication systems have moved from the experimental phase of the Telstar and Relay satellites to the beginnings of commercial operation with the HS 303 (Early Bird) synchronous orbit satellite. When one considers the leap forward in technology, which the art of using satellites for world-wide communication itself

ACE: A Satellite Communication System Emulator

20th AIAA International Communication Satellite Systems Conference and Exhibit, 2002
ACE (a short for ASI CNIT Emulator) is a real time simulator of satellite communication systems based on IP packet transmissions. It has been implemented with the financial support of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) by CNIT, a consortium grouping all major technical universities in Italy. ACE is a “virtual satellite” able to operate with real traffic in

Business forecasting for communication satellite systems

Communications Satellite Systems Conference, 1966
Abstract This paper provides general guidelines for those interested in the general mechanics of projecting and forecasting the growth of a global satellite system but, in particular, for those interested in estimating the economic benefits accruing to participants in such a system.

The development of satellite mobile communication system

2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM), 2011
Satellite mobile communication is one of the most important directions in satellite communication. In this paper the development of satellite mobile communication system is summarized, then the technical evolution is listed from the point of system, satellite and terminals, and finally its standard progress is described.
