Diatom‐Inspired 1D Immobile Robots Capable of 2D Collective Mobility

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study presents a diatom‐inspired robotic system that explores group coordination through limited physical interactions. The researchers tune groups of Barbots, simple robotic agents that possess neither individual mobility nor explicit communication capabilities, to achieve complex and adaptive collaboration based on environmental light.

Research on key factors of satellite laser pointing calibration based on terrain matching: a case of GF-7 satellite

open access: yesGeocarto International
The satellite laser geometry calibration method based on terrain matching (terrain matching calibration) has been extensively employed in satellite laser geometry calibration for its simplicity and lack of need for ground probes.

Spatiotemporal modeling of schistosomiasis in Ghana: linking remote sensing data to infectious disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
More than 90% of the worldwide schistosomiasis burden falls on sub-Saharan Africa. Control efforts are often based on infrequent, small-scale health surveys, which are expensive and logistically difficult to conduct.

Enforcing Environmental Regulation: Implications of Remote Sensing Technology [PDF]

open access: yes
We review economic models of environmental protection and regulatory enforcement to highlight several attributes that are particularly likely to benefit from new enforcement technologies such as remote sensing using satellites in space.

Mimicking a Light‐Harvesting Complex to Accelerate Photooxidation in Asymmetric Lipid Membrane Nanoreactors

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Biomimetic liposome nanoreactors mimicking natural light‐harvesting complexes enable efficient photooxidation of NADH. Membrane‐anchored fluorescein transfers energy via FRET to membrane anchored eosin Y, oxidizing NADH. While symmetric membranes show little improvement, asymmetric chromophore distribution enhances photooxidation rates by up to 27 ...

Commercial potential of remote sensing data from the Earth observing system [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose was to assess the market potential of remote sensing value-added products from the Earth Observing System (EOS) platform. Sensors on the EOS platform were evaluated to determine which qualities and capabilities could be useful to the ...

Mapping the Reactivity of the C═C Bond of Cyclic Enol Ether Derivatives of Sugars: Nucleophilicity Parameters of Glycals

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Endo or Exo? The first quantitative kinetic mapping of the nucleophilic reactivity of endo‐ and exo‐glycal compounds highlighted that endo‐glycals are typically 102 times less reactive than their corresponding parent cyclic enol ethers while exo‐glycals are 103 more nucleophilic. This experimental and computational structure–reactivity study highlights
