Satellites of Satellites: The Case for Carina and Fornax [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2019
Abstract We use the Auriga cosmological simulations of Milky Way (MW)-mass galaxies and their surroundings to study the satellite populations of dwarf galaxies in ΛCDM. As expected from prior work, the number of satellites above a fixed stellar mass is a strong function of the mass of the primary dwarf.

Satellite RNAs and Satellite Viruses of Plants [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2009
The view that satellite RNAs (satRNAs) and satellite viruses are purely molecular parasites of their cognate helper viruses has changed. The molecular mechanisms underlying the synergistic and/or antagonistic interactions among satRNAs/satellite viruses, helper viruses, and host plants are beginning to be comprehended. This review aims to summarize the

Assessment of the EUMETSAT Multi Decadal Land Surface Albedo Data Record from Meteosat Observations

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Surface albedo, defined as the ratio of the surface-reflected irradiance to the incident irradiance, is one of the parameters driving the Earth energy budget and it is for this reason an essential variable in climate studies. Instruments on geostationary

Satellite RNAs and Satellite Viruses [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions®, 2016
Satellite RNAs and satellite viruses are extraviral components that can affect either the pathogenicity, the accumulation, or both of their associated viruses while themselves being dependent on the associated viruses as helper viruses for their infection. Most of these satellite RNAs are noncoding RNAs, and in many cases, have been shown to alter the

Spectral Synthesis for Satellite-to-Satellite Translation

open access: yesCoRR, 2020
Earth observing satellites carrying multi-spectral sensors are widely used to monitor the physical and biological states of the atmosphere, land, and oceans. These satellites have different vantage points above the earth and different spectral imaging bands resulting in inconsistent imagery from one to another.

Satellite Communications

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, 2008
The call for papers resulted in a high number of submis- sions, from which we have been able to select 12 excellent papers dealing with the different aspects of satellite commu- nications and navigation. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques are attracting a considerable amount of attention from within the terrestrial wireless community. The

KaRIn Noise Reduction Using a Convolutional Neural Network for the SWOT Ocean Products

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
The SWOT (Surface Water Ocean Topography) mission will provide high-resolution and two-dimensional measurements of sea surface height (SSH). However, despite its unprecedented precision, SWOT’s Ka-band Radar Interferometer (KaRIn) still exhibits a ...
