Theoretical study of the operation of gated saturable absorbers
Optical and Quantum Electronics, 1993The operation of gated saturable absorbers is described by the classical space-time-dependent rate equation model considering both ground-state and excited-state absorption and stimulated emission. The effect of different molecular and cavity parameters on the transmitted pulse is shown.

Optical rogue waves in a laser with saturable absorber
2017 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC), 2017Extreme events and rogue waves (RW) are commonly know as events with very high amplitude whose frequent occurrence is not explainable through the statistics assumed for the set of data under study. Born in oceanography, the concept of extreme events has been extended to many different optical systems in recent years, such as optical fibers [1], laser ...

2R regeneration study in a microcavity with a saturable absorber
Optics Communications, 2004We theoretically study the dynamical response of a saturable absorber (SA) in a microcavity realizing a non-linear mirror (NLM). We compare the effects of the SA response time on the extinction ratio of a single pulse crossing a single NLM and a two NLM based device. We also study 2R regeneration of a 40 Gbit/s pulses train with a single NLM.

Bifurcation phenomena in a laser with saturable absorber I
Zeitschrift fr Physik B Condensed Matter, 1981We investigate the bifurcation diagram of a laser with saturable absorber in the low and medium intensity regimes. The linear stability of the stationary solutions corresponding to these regimes is studied. In the low intensity domain, a Hopf bifurcation point is determined from which a time-periodic solution emerges.

Stabilization of solitonlike pulses with a slow saturable absorber
Optics Letters, 1995We show that a soliton of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation perturbed by filter losses and/or the finite gain bandwidth of amplifiers can be kept stable by saturable absorbers with a relaxation time much longer than the width of the soliton. This provides for ultrashort pulse generation with a slow saturable absorber only and may have possible ...

Instabilities in a bimode CO2 laser with a saturable absorber
Optics Communications, 1990We report on the observation of mode hopping in a bimode CO2 laser with a saturable absorber. When the control parameters are changed, the output intensity of this laser shows a succession of periodic regimes that may become completely erratic. Each of these regimes may be explained considering the role played alternatively by two unstable fixed points

LIGHT AMPLIFICATION IN SATURABLE ABSORBERS
Applied Physics Letters, 1968It has been found that an absorber driven into saturation by a strong light pulse can amplify a weak light pulse simultaneously incident upon the medium. Gains as high as 20 cm−1 have been observed. This effect is believed to be related to the ability of a saturable absorber to bring about mode locking in a laser cavity.

An integrated saturable absorber employing spatial solitons
Proceedings of 5th European Quantum Electronics Conference, 1995Semiconductors and in particular AlGaAs, have proved to be optimum nonlinear materials when operated below the half band gap. Large phase shifts have been observed, with a minimal nonlinear absorption. The large nonlinear refractive index found in AlGaAs can also be used to observe spatial solitons, at lower power levels that have previously been ...
