Hyperbolic Saturation

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 2009
Several hyperbolically saturating empirical models, such as the Michaelis-Menten rate equation, Monod's relative population growth rate, competitive inhibition, and Langmuir's adsorption, are rederived from a simple queuing relation. The resulting derivations reveal and potentially explain the underlying structure and meaning of such empirical models ...

Saturated ideals

Journal of Symbolic Logic, 1978
In this paper, we give consistency proofs for the existence of a κ-saturated ideal on an inaccessible κ, and for the existence of an ω2-saturated ideal on ω1. We also include an historical survey outlining other known results on saturated ideals.§1. Forcing.

The Saturation Debate

Science, 1998
A question hotly debated in neuroscience concerns the origins of learning: Does long-term potentiation--the enhancement of synaptic function triggered by strong stimulus--represent the neural basis of learning? In his Perspective, Bliss discusses results reported in the same issue by [ Moser et al .][1] in which the authors have revisited a classic ...

Cross-saturation and transferred cross-saturation experiments

Quarterly Reviews of Biophysics, 2014
AbstractStructural analyses of protein–protein interactions are required to reveal their functional mechanisms, and accurate protein–protein complex models, based on experimental results, are the starting points for drug development. In addition, structural information about proteins under physiologically relevant conditions is crucially important for ...

Measurement of losses and saturated permeability of saturable cores under submicrosecond saturation

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1996
Two specific methods are introduced for obtaining accurate losses and saturated permeability of saturable cores under submicrosecond saturation. One employs an additional inductor for accurate measurement of the losses. The other minimizes stray inductance for accurate measurement of the saturated permeability.

Saturation of Repair

1985
The deleterious effects of the exposure of cells, tissues or animals to exogenous radiations and chemicals are ameliorated by DNA repair processes. Many repair pathways are constitutive, and some, such as the SOS system in bacteria, are inducible while others, such as the UvrABC excision system in E. coli, are both constitutive and inducible (Friedberg,

Detour‐saturated graphs

Journal of Graph Theory, 2005
AbstractA graph is said to be detour‐saturated if the addition of any edge results in an increased greatest path length. In this paper, we add to the relatively small amount that is known about detour‐saturated graphs. Our main result is a determination of all connected detour‐saturated graphs with exactly one cycle.
