Saussurea involucrata is a medicinal plant well known for its flavonoids, including apigenin, which has been shown to significantly inhibit tumorigenesis. Since naturally occurring apigenin is in very low abundance, we took a transgenic approach to increase apigenin production by engineering the flavonoid pathway.

[Effects of media on the production of flavonoids by suspension cultures of Saussurea medusa].
Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2000Flavonoids were produced from cell suspension cultures of Saussurea medusa. The results of studies on eight types of culture media showed that the MS medium was the best for cell growth and flavonoids formation, We investigated the effects of all the components of MS medium on the cell growth and flavonoids production, and found that carbon, nitrogen ...

[Cloning and sequence analysis of MYB transcriptional regulator SmP gene of Saussurea medusa Maxim].
Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2010A full-length cDNA encoding a MYB-related regulatory gene was isolated from a cDNA library prepared from mRNAs of the red line callus of S. medusa by TD-PCR. The cDNA, designated SmP, is 969 nucleotides long and has an open reading frame of 771 bp with a deduced amino acid sequence of 256 residues.

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment
Saussurea medusa is a rare alpine plant with significant medicinal value. To better understand the changes in its habitat in the context of climate change, this study used an optimized MaxEnt model to predict the current and future habitat of S. medusa under four shared socioeconomic pathways (SSPs) across three time periods (current, mid-century, and ...

[Flavonoids contents and expression analysis of related genes in red cell line of Saussurea medusa].
Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2015Saussurea medusa is a rare traditional Chinese medicinal herb. Besides anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities, it has effects of disinhibiting cold, dispelling dampness and promoting blood circulation. Flavonoids are the main medicinal compounds in S. medusa.

The contents of scopoletin and umbelliferone in Saussurea medusa Maxim were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using Merck Lichrospher100 RP-18e column (250 mm x 4.0 mm, 5 microm) with the mobile phase of methanol-tetrahydrofuran-water solution and the absorbance of the compounds observed at 346 nm.

The effects of some physical and chemical factors on callus growth and flavonoids formation in callus cultures of Saussurea medusa Maxim were studied. The optimal temperature for callus growth and flavonoids formation were 25 degrees C. Flavonoids formation were greatly inhibited under dark condition, and stimulated by white light.
