Evaluation of Genotoxic Pressure along the Sava River [PDF]

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2016
In this study we have performed a comprehensive genotoxicological survey along the 900 rkm of the Sava River. In total, 12 sites were chosen in compliance with the goals of GLOBAQUA project dealing with the effects of multiple stressors on biodiversity and functioning of aquatic ecosystems.

Description of a new species of Alburnus Rafinesque, 1820 (Actinopterygii, Cyprinidae, Leuciscinae) from the Kolpa River in the Sava River system (upper Danube drainage), with remarks on the geographical distribution of shemayas in the Danube [PDF]

open access: yesZooKeys, 2017
Alburnus sava, new species, is described from the Kolpa River. The Kolpa is a tributary of the Sava, a major tributary of the Danube River, in the Black Sea basin. Alburnus sava is distinguished from its congeners in the Danube drainage, A.

Enantioselective Determination of Amphetamine‐Type Stimulants in Environmental Waters Using SPE and CE–MS/MS [PDF]

open access: yesELECTROPHORESIS, Volume 47, Issue 3, Page 250-260, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The growing concern over drug abuse, particularly involving amphetamine‐type substances (ATS), has led to their monitoring in environmental waters. These chiral compounds, commonly found in river water and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluents, require analytical methods capable of enantiomeric discrimination, as their enantiomers can ...

Origin and Genetic Diversity of Barbatula (Cypriniformes: Nemacheilidae) in Italy [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
The stone loach (Barbatula barbatula Linnaeus, 1758) is considered native in Northern Italy and classified as vulnerable (VU), having a limited and fragmented distribution In the present study, 248 specimens of Barbatula sp., collected from sampling sites spanning its entire known distribution area in Italy, were analysed by sequencing the Cytochrome C

Genetic characterisation of European mudminnow (Umbra krameri) populations from the Sava River system

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 2019
Two new populations of the European mudminnow (Umbra krameri Walbaum, 1792) were discovered in the Sava River system, one in its middle part (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the other in a tributary to the Kupa River (Croatia). The Croatian population is the

Metal Bioavailability in the Sava River Water [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Metals present one of the major contamination problems for freshwater systems, such as the Sava River, due to their high toxicity, persistence, and tendency to accumulate in sediment and living organisms. The comprehensive assessment of the metal bioavailability in the Sava River encompassed the analyses of dissolved and DGT-labile metal species of ...
