Band Saw and Jig Saw

1962
There are several types of band saws made for different work. The largest is the band mill, which is used in sawmills for cutting logs into planks. This saw has wheels up to 7′ in diameter and blades up to 16″ wide. The band resaw is somewhat smaller and is used in mills and lumber yards for resawing thick lumber into thinner material.

SAWing on symmetry

Proceedings of the 1999 Congress on Evolutionary Computation-CEC99 (Cat. No. 99TH8406), 2003
In this paper we investigate the behavior of mutation-based evolutionary algorithms on highly symmetric binary constraint satisfaction problems. With empirical methods we study why and when these algorithms perform better under the stepwise adaptive weighting of penalties (SAWing) than under the standard penalty function.

“What I saw” and “What he saw”:

2017
Empathy tasks, which invite students to identify with historical actors or describe their perspectives, are a common phenomenon in history education.
