Evaluation of Numerical Methods for Dispersion Curve Estimation in Viscoelastic Plates

open access: yesEng
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of five analytical and semi-analytical methods for estimating Lamb wave dispersion in viscoelastic plates—the Rayleigh–Lamb solution, the Global Matrix Method (GMM), the Semi-Analytical Finite Element (SAFE ...

Use of saline‐soaked bacterial culture swabs increases bacterial recovery in dogs with superficial bacterial folliculitis

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 5, Page 621-629, October 2025.
Background – Canine superficial bacterial folliculitis (SBF) is a common recurrent condition with a growing requirement for culture and susceptibility as a consequence of increased antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship. Different opinions persist about the ideal technique for culture sample acquisition, which varies with lesion ...

The coupled dual boundary element-scaled boundary finite element method for efficient fracture mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A novel numerical method is presented for applications to general fracture mechanics problems in engineering. The coupled dual boundary element-scaled boundary finite element method (DBE-SBFEM) incorporates the numerical accuracy of the SBFEM and the ...

Comparison of commercial next‐generation sequencing assays to conventional culture methods for bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility of samples obtained from clinical cases of canine superficial bacterial folliculitis

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 1, Page 14-23, February 2025.
Background – Bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing is an important step in timely therapeutic decisions for canine superficial bacterial folliculitis (SBF), commonly caused by Staphylococcus pseudintermedius. Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) offers the appeal of potentially expedited results with complete detection of ...

VERTICAL VIBRATIONS OF BASE ISOLATED MACHINEFOUNDATIONS

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2010
Vibration of base isolated machine foundations has been studied using the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method (SBFEM) and the cone model method. The dynamic stiffness of soil supporting rigid massless foundation was determined.

A scaled boundary shell formulation in isogeometric analysis for static and dynamic analysis

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 24, Issue 3, October 2024.
Abstract In modern applications of computer‐aided design (CAD) for the analysis of shell structures, isogeometric analysis is a powerful tool that integrates both design and analysis. An exact geometry description and a straightforward computation without loss of information are advantageous, especially for shell structures such as roofs, satellite ...

Stabilization‐free virtual element method for 2D elastoplastic problems

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 125, Issue 15, 15 August 2024.
Abstract In this paper, a novel first‐ and second‐order stabilization‐free virtual element method is proposed for two‐dimensional elastoplastic problems. In contrast to traditional virtual element methods, the improved method does not require any stabilization, making the solution of nonlinear problems more reliable.
