Segmentation of images of yeast cells by scale-space analysis
16th Brazilian Symposium on Computer Graphics and Image Processing (SIBGRAPI 2003), 2004We present an hierarchical approach to segment images of yeast cells based on watershed and space-scale analysis. Yeasts belong to an important fungi class and the performance of bioreactors and other chemical processes are greatly influenced by their morphological character.

Segmenting multisensor aerial images in class–scale space
Pattern Recognition, 2001Abstract We introduce a class–scale space for automated segmentation of aerial images from diverse sensors. We describe the performance of a segmentation algorithm operating in this space. This algorithm is carried out by three processors in succession: multiscale feature extractor, multiclass pattern classifier, and class–scale logic. The multiscale

Scale Space Hierarchy of Segments
2009In this paper, we develop a segmentation algorithm using configurations of singular points in the linear scale space. We define segment edges as a zero-crossing set in the linear scale space using the singular points. An image in the linear scale space is the convolution of the image and the Gaussian kernel.

Acoustic-phonetic segment classification and scale-space filtering
ICASSP '87. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005Scale-space filtering represents one method for automatically extracting both coarse and fine-grained units from the speech signal. We examine the acoustic-phonetic structure of segments obtained by scale-space filtering of cochleagrams, and report on the correspondences between scale-space segments which are automatically derived and hand-marked ...

Color image segmentation by scale-space image analysis
2007 International Conference on Wavelet Analysis and Pattern Recognition, 2007An image analysis method has been proposed to segment color images. The method is capable of segmenting color images based on watershed transform and scale-space analysis of the images. We analyze hierarchical, geometric properties and the hue uniformity measure of the tree of scale-space and show the experimental results for several biological and ...

Image segmentation using Scale-Space Random Walks
2009 16th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing, 2009Many methods for supervised image segmentation exist. One such algorithm, Random Walks, is very fast and accurate when compared to other methods. A drawback to Random Walks is that it has difficulty producing accurate and clean segmentations in the presence of noise.

A novel Gaussian Scale Space-based joint MGRF framework for precise lung segmentation
2012 19th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2012A new framework for the precise segmentation of lung tissues from Computed Tomography (CT) is proposed. The CT images, Gaussian Scale Space (GSS) data generation using Gaussian Kernels (GKs), and desired maps of regions (lung and the other chest tissues)

An Idempotent Scale-Space Approach for Morphological Segmentation
2005This work constitutes a first approach on image segmentation based on the recently proposed morphological scale-space theory. We introduce an idempotent smoot hing operation, in the corresponding scale-space, and analyze some of its main features concerning the monotonicity of the image extrema and the way these extrema merge in a multiscale ...

Bifurcation of Segment Edge Curves in Scale Space
2012In this paper, we aim to develop a criterion to select scale parameters, which control pre-smoothing for edge detection. We first formalise the Canny edge detector which extracts the zeros of bilinear form of the first- and the second-order derivatives of image intensity.

Segmenting by Compression Using Linear Scale-Space and Watersheds
1999Automatic segmentation is performed using watersheds of the gradient magnitude and compression techniques. Linear Scale-Space is used to discover the neighbourhood structure and catchment basins are locally merged with Minimum Description Length. The algorithm can form a basis for a large range of automatic segmentation algorithms based on watersheds ...
