Scaled-Up Multi-Needle Electrospinning Process Using Parallel Plate Auxiliary Electrodes
Electrospinning has gained much attention in recent years due to its ability to easily produce high-quality polymeric nanofibers. However, electrospinning suffers from limited production capacity and a method to readily scale up this process is needed ...

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

The effects of scale on the costs of targeted HIV prevention interventions among female and male sex workers, men who have sex with men and transgenders in India. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: The India AIDS Initiative (Avahan) project is involved in rapid scale-up of HIV-prevention interventions in high-risk populations. This study examines the cost variation of 107 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) implementing targeted ...

Scale-up of fluidized bed combustion
Methods for scaling of fluidized-bed combustors are reviewed. It is found that a general scaling methodology, including simultaneously fluid dynamic and combustion scaling can not be carried out in practical scaling tests.

Self-Organizing Maps to Assess the Recycling of Waste in Ceramic Construction Materials
Circular economy promotes the use of waste materials into new production processes as a key factor for resource efficiency. The construction sector, and specifically the fired clay industry, is able to assimilate large amounts of waste in their processes,

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Scale-up of continuous reactors using phenomenological-based models [PDF]
A methodology for scaling up continuous reactors using a Phenomenological-Based Semiphysical Model (PBSM) of the process is presented. First, a review of the most popular scale-up methods is made, finding that these methods do not guarantee an adequate ...
