A two-dimensional gradient-elasticity theory for woven fabrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A gradient elasticity theory is proposed for the mechanics of woven fabrics. This is motivated by a series of recent experiments in which strongly localized deformation features are observed in the so-called bias test.

Homogenized Balance Equations for Nonlinear Poroelastic Composites

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Within this work, we upscale the equations that describe the pore-scale behaviour of nonlinear porous elastic composites, using the asymptotic homogenization technique in order to derive the macroscale effective governing equations. A porous hyperelastic

Effective Elastic Scaling of Deep Learning Workloads [PDF]

open access: yes2020 28th International Symposium on Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems (MASCOTS), 2020
The increased use of deep learning (DL) in academia, government and industry has, in turn, led to the popularity of on-premise and cloud-hosted deep learning platforms, whose goals are to enable organizations utilize expensive resources effectively, and to share said resources among multiple teams in a fair and effective manner.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Scale elasticity in the presence of integer data: An application to electricity distribution companies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Returns to scale and scale elasticity are two important issues in the field of economics and operations research. Recently, estimating returns to scale and scale elasticity using tools such as data envelopment analysis (DEA) has attracted considerable ...

MagmaFlow: A desktop platform for artificial intelligence‐driven expression analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
MagmaFlow is a free, no‐code platform for gene expression analysis. It generates interactive volcano plots, links genes to literature, pathways, and diseases, prioritizes candidates using millions of publications, identifies affected biological processes, builds network diagrams, and exports publication‐ready figures and reports for macOS and Windows ...

A higher order control volume based finite element method to prodict the deformation of heterogeneous materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Materials with obvious internal structure can exhibit behaviour, under loading, that cannot be described by classical elasticity. It is therefore important to develop computational tools incorporating appropriate constitutive theories that can capture ...

Scale elasticity and technical efficiency measures in two-stage network production processes: an application to the insurance sector

open access: yesFinancial Innovation
In performance analysis with tools such as data envelopment analysis, calculations of scale properties of the frontier points are studied using both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
