Rediscovering an extraordinary vanishing bug: Llaveia axin axin Redescubriendo un insecto extraordinario que desaparece: Llaveia axin axin

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Biodiversidad, 2013
The "aje" (Llaveia axin axin) is a parasitic hemipteran of various tree species in tropical dry forests of Mexico and Guatemala. Females produce fatty extracts used since prehispanic times (i.e., traditional medicine and as raw material to produce ...

The Trichinella Super‐Pangenome Reveals the Evolution of Encapsulation and Predicted Host–Parasite Protein Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The muscle capsule of Trichinella is a critical structure that impedes immune attacks and drug penetration, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying its formation remain poorly understood. Using a high‐quality super‐pangenome comprising 12 Trichinella species, we compared extensive genomic variations between encapsulating and non‐encapsulating ...

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Population genetic structure in stream insects: what have we learned?

open access: yes, 2008
This chapter synthesizes data from 41 studies on 32 species of stream insects in an attempt to answer three questions: First, what is the major dispersal mechanism in aquatic insects, i.e. stream drift or adult flight? If it is stream drift, then genetic

CMOS‐Integrated Synaptic Photoreceptor Chip Inspired by Insect Visual Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CMOS‐integrated Si QDs/ReS2 synaptic photoreceptor array mimics the parallel processing and wavelength‐selective strategy of insect vision. By combining intrinsic ultraviolet‐violet sensitivity with synaptic plasticity, the chip enables frontend sensory redundancy reduction without external filters, offering a scalable pathway toward lowpower ...
