Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Scale Up Parameter for Surface Aeration Systems
Based on the scale up parameter, X (theoretical power per unit volume = $F^{4/3} R^{1/3}$, where F is the impeller Froude number and R is the impeller Reynolds number), it is presented that the said parameter is useful in scaling up the micromixing time ...

Linear spatio-temporal scale-space
This article shows how a linear scale-space formulation previously expressed for spatial domains extends to spatio-temporal data. Starting from the main assumptions that: (i) the scale-space should be generated by convolution with a semi-group of filter ...

The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Scaling of echolocation call parameters in bats
ABSTRACT I investigated the scaling of echolocation call parameters (frequency, duration and repetition rate) in bats in a functional context. Low-duty-cycle bats operate with search phase cycles of usually less than 20 %. They process echoes in the time domain and are therefore intolerant of pulse–echo overlap.

Identification of Fractal Scale Parameter of Machined Surface Profile
In order to identify fractal scale parameters of machined surface profile accurately, the precisions of different parameter identification methods, such as power spectrum method, structure function method and variance method, are analyzed and compared ...

Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Single parameter aging and density scaling
In a recent paper, Di Lisio et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 159, 064505 (2023)] analyzed a series of temperature down-jumps using the single-parameter aging (SPA) ansatz combined with a specific assumption about density scaling in the out-of-equilibrium system and did not find a good prediction for the largest down-jumps.

Scale parameter modelling of the t-distribution [PDF]
This thesis considers location and scale parameter modelling of the heteroscedastic t-distribution. This new distribution is an extension of the heteroscedastic Gaussian and provides robust analysis in the presence of outliers as well accommodates ...

Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...
