Two-parameter scaling in the Wigner ensemble

Physical Review Letters, 1993
The Wigner ensemble of band random matrices describes the statistical properties of strongly chaotic Hamiltonians; it may also be viewed as a disordered tight-binding model with an electric field. We investigate the scaling properties of the localization of eigenstates and that of the distribution of level spacings, P(s), for finite matrices.

The scaling characteristics of soil parameters: From plot scale heterogeneity to subgrid parameterization

Journal of Hydrology, 1997
Abstract The variation in soil texture, surface moisture or vertical soil moisture gradient in larger scale atmospheric models may lead to significant variations in simulated surface fluxes of water and heat. The parameterization of soil moisture fluxes at spatial scales compatible with the grid size of distributed hydrological models and mesoscale ...

Analytic Determination of Scaling Parameters

2006 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2006
We show that the finite-length scaling parameters for irregular LDPC codes when used over the binary erasure channel can be computed without resorting to "covariance evolution". We provide simple expressions that can be evaluated using solely the degree distributions and the characteristics of the fixed point of density evolution.

Scaling parameter and universality

Physica, 1972
Abstract Scaling laws and universality with respect to a parameter are derived from the same standpoint. An equation of state for small values of the parameter is found, which has the property of homogeneity and universality, and also describes systems which for some value of the parameter change critical behaviour.

Scaling down of microequipment parameters

Precision Engineering, 2006
A method of micromechanical device fabrication is examined in this article. The method consists of the development of equipment which has sizes comparable with the sizes of the produced parts. There are different approaches to this problem. We propose a method of micromachine tool and micromanipulator creation. We do not use the expensive elements.

Scaling Blast Parameters

2010
It is often useful to be able to scale the results from one experiment to a similar experiment having a different yield. Such scaling allows the pressure or impulse from one experiment to be used to predict the pressure from another or to compare the results of two different experiments.

Determination of Scale Parameter, Determination of Scale Parameter, (Ko - Kmin)

2005
The most efficient method of determining a scale parameter is to test six or more specimens at one test temperature and as close as possible to the To temperature. A method of making a rough estimate of a test temperature close to To is to use data from a Charpy V-notch impact-energy transition curve in conjunction with the following equation: To ...

SCALING PARAMETERS FOR HOT-PARTICLE BETA DOSIMETRY

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2016
Scaling of dose-point kernel (DPK) values for beta particles transmitted by high-Z sources will overestimate dose at shallow depths while underestimating dose at greater depths due to spectral hardening. A new model has been developed based on a determination of the amount of monoenergetic electron absorption that occurs in a given source thickness ...

Obstacle Stepping and Body Scale Modulating Parameters

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 2009
The purpose of this study was to investigate gait spatial parameters at the point of departure, with obstacle heights adjusted to individual body scale. Undergraduate student volunteers ( M age = 22.4 yr., SD = 2.1; 6 women, 1 man) were asked to step once, then cross over an obstacle and stop. This behavior was video recorded to extract kinematic data.
