Scaling‐up biodiversity‐ecosystem functioning research

open access: yesEcology Letters, 2020
A rich body of knowledge links biodiversity to ecosystem functioning (BEF), but it is primarily focused on small scales. We review the current theory and identify six expectations for scale dependence in the BEF relationship: (1) a nonlinear change in ...

Health information use and the associated factors among public health facilities of the Sidama Zone, southern Ethiopia: a facility-based cross-sectional study

open access: yesHealthcare in Low-resource Settings
A strong Health Information System (HIS) is a foundation for evidence-based decision making in health care management. However, there is a dearth of literature with respect to health information use practice, particularly in public health facilities of ...

Challenges of Scaling Up SARS-CoV-2 Rapid Antigen Tests

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical Microbiology, 2021
The current reference standard for the diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the molecular detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Several rapid antigen tests (RATs) have been developed for the rapid and

Elucidation of interface interactions between a dehydratase domain and an acyl carrier protein in cremimycin polyketide synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In modular polyketide synthases, the dehydratase (DH) domain catalyzes the dehydration reaction of the β‐hydroxyacyl unit attached to the cognate acyl carrier protein (ACP) domain. However, it is unclear how DH interacts with ACP during the reaction. In this study, we identified DH–ACP interface residues, providing the first detailed insights into DH ...

Are boys more vulnerable to stunting? Examining risk factors, differential sensitivity, and measurement issues in Zambian infants and young children

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background Stunting remains a considerable public health problem globally, and sex differences in prevalence have been documented. While many risk factors for stunting have been identified, few studies examine how these factors may contribute to sex ...

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.
